WHS hockey loses in OT

REDWOOD FALLS -- The Worthington boys' hockey team was outscored 22-1 last season by Redwood Valley. This season the Trojans wanted to be competitive and, although they dropped to 0-3 after Saturday's loss to RV, it was a 4-3 loss in overtime.

"We wanted to learn to be competitive this year and we're getting there," coach Pat Christopherson said.

Two goals on broken plays were the difference in the game. WHS took a 3-2 lead midway through the third period on a powerplay goal for Alex Kremer, but RV would tie it up before the clock ran out.

"They snuck one in on us," Christopherson said. "It was at the end of a shift, so we were tired and we couldn't clear the puck."

In overtime, RV used another broken play to win the game with three minutes left in the extra frame.

Jacob Molden scored the first goal for the Trojans and Ethan Stofferan scored the second. Trojan Rylan Scholtes had 35 saves. Worthington plays Windom Area Thursday.
