WHS Boys Basketball: Trojans fall 52-49 to rival Tigers

MARSHALL -- As any Worthington-Marshall matchup should be, Friday night's boys' basketball game was a battle with the Trojans coming out on the wrong end of a 52-49 game.

"It was a war," WHS coach Ron Vorwald said. "It was the typical Worthington-Marshall battle."

A contested desperation 3-point attempt by Lucas Henning is how the game came to an end, but the story of the game was defense.

"Neither team could find a rhythm offensively," Vorwald said. "Marshall made a mini run in the second half to get an eight-point lead and then missed some free throws in the final minutes, but were able to keep us away from the arc on the final possession."

The teams were separated by just two points at the break and it came down to the final possession. Mitch Weg led the way for WHS (3-1) with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Henning chipped in six points and three assists and Morgan Traylor added 10 points and seven rebounds.

The first blemish of the season coming to an archrival left WHS not feeling so great.

"It doesn't feel very well," Vorwald said. "It's Marshall and there's a lot at stake."

There is good news for the Trojans.

"There'll be a rematch here in Worthington," Vorwald said.
