PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: MLA, Ellsworth to meet in championship game
MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Mitch Leuthold dropped 21 points for the Ellsworth Panthers in a 58-53 win over the Truman/Martin Luther Bluejays Thursday in the boys division of the Mountain Lake Area Holiday Basketball Tournament.
The Panthers outscored the Bluejays 28-21 in the first half, but T/ML came back and scored 32 points in the second to close the gap. However, it was not enough with Ellsworth putting up 30 points of its own in the final frame to pull out the win.
Justin Kruse had a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) for the Panthers, while Daniel and Johnathon Kramer both had five assists.
The Bluejays were led by Sam Geistfeld who picked up 15 points in the game.
Ellsworth heads to the championship game of the Mountain Lake Area Tourament to take on the Moutain Lake Area Wolverines today.

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Carter Kirk put up a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) for the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines in a win over Lakeview at the Mountain Lake Area Holiday Basketball Tournament Thursday.
The Wolverines held Lakeview to just six points in the first half, while scoring 31 themselves.
Kirk also had three blocks in the game to go along with 12 points by Cody Klassen.
Derek Larsen led Lakeview with 10 points in the game.
With the win, the Wolverines advance to take on the Ellsworth Panthers today in the championship game.

BLUE EARTH -- Jon Harmening put up a double-double (16 points, 18 rebounds) for the Jackson County Central Huskies in a win over United South Central at the Blue Earth Area Holiday Tournament Thursday.
The Huskies led by three points heading into halftime, but outscored USC 34-29 in the second to finish with an eight point cushion to end the game.
Taylor Christopher put up 21 points and five assists for JCC in the game, while Austin Hinkeldey had 16 points. Darnell Taylor-Breck added 10 points and five rebounds for the Huskies.
United South Central was led by Cole Stencel who had a game-high 23 points.
The Huskies will face the winner of the Blue Earth Area/Granada-Huntley-East Chain game in the championship today.

MARSHALL -- Parker Lanoue had a game-high 13 points and four rebounds for the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers in a loss to Montevideo Thursday at the Marshall Holiday Tournament.
The Panthers trailed 27-23 at halftime, but fought their way back to within one point in the second falling just short.
Alec Swan had eight points and a team-high five rebounds for T-M-B, while Brian Fultz added seven points in the game.
Montevideo was led by Jesse Brace who had 12 points.
The Panthers face Marshall today in the final day of the Marshall Holiday Tournament.
