PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Marshall tops Luverne for 1st place in SWC

LUVERNE -- Class 3A No. 7-ranked Marshall overpowered Luverne 60-41 during a battle for first place in the Southwest Conference Tuesday.

The Tigers made 56 percent (24 of 43) of their shots from the field, while holding the Cardinals to 41 percent (15 of 36).

Tanner Bukowski had a team-high 13 points for Marshall (10-1, 5-0). Austin Saugstad added 12 points, while Hunter Peterson (nine points, four steals), Carl Douglas (nine points) and Riley Sharbono (five rebounds) also helped the Tigers' effort.

Brett Heronimus scored a game-high 15 points for Luverne (6-4, 4-1). Matthew Arends added 11 points, while Josh Slieter pulled down four rebounds and Blake Ziegler created three assists.

Marshall hosts Pipestone Area on Friday, while Luverne plays at Windom Area, also on Friday.

WINDOM -- Windom Area built a 12-point halftime lead and ran well in transition during a non-conference home win over St. James Area on Tuesday.

The Eagles led 39-27 after 18 minutes and won the second half by a 38-34 count.

Nathan Remmers (23 points, six rebounds), Andy Pfeffer (13 points, eight assists), Bryce Bever (10 points), and Collin Lovell (10 points, nine rebounds) sparked Windom Area, which improved to 5-6 overall.

Joe Nelson (19 points) and Zach Brandts (15 points) led St. James Area (1-8).

The Eagles host Luverne in a Southwest Conference game Friday.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 70,

Westbrook-WG 62

TRACY -- Tracy-Milroy-Balaton overcame a halftime deficit to secure a non-conference boys basketball win over Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Tuesday.

The Chargers (3-6 overall) held a 29-28 lead after 18 minutes, but the Panthers (3-6 overall) outscored W-WG 42-33 in the second half.

T-M-B's Josh Kirk had a game-high 22 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the field and a 7 of 7 effort at the free-throw line. Parker Lanoue added 16 points and five rebounds, while Alec Swan chipped in 11 points and three assists.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove had four players score in double figures -- Shane Buchman (17 points), Aaron Hass (13), Taylor Lindaman (11) and Alex Knutson (10). Reed Bakken added nine points, while Knutson also pulled six rebounds.

The Panthers outscored the Chargers 21-11 at the free-throw line.

T-M-B hosts Renville County West in a Camden Conference game Thursday, while W-WG hosts Southwest Christian in a Red Rock Conference game, also on Thursday.
