PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Adrian defeats Fulda in RRC tilt

ADRIAN -- Courtney Vaske picked up 11 points and eight rebounds to lead the Adrian Dragons to a 55-38 win over the Fulda Raiders during a Red Rock Conference girls basketball game Tuesday.

The Dragons scored 37 points in the first half to take an 18-point lead at halftime and held the Raiders to 19 points in the second half to secure the win.

Elizabeth Thier scored 15 points for the Dragons, while Carly Wolf had nine points and five assists. Jordin Kopplow lead the team in assists with six, steals with and rebounds with 10 to go along with eight points in the game.

The Raiders were led by Melissa Gehl, who had 17 points on the night, while Courtney Tiesler and Sarah Cheadle added five and four points respectively.

Adrian (15-4, 11-1) hosts Southwest Christian Friday, while Fulda (16-7, 10-4) hosts Murray County Central on Friday.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- Lexi Ackerman put up 17 points, dished out 11 assists and compiled seven steals to power the Central Lyon Lions to a win over the Sheldon Orabs in their final regular season game during a Siouxland Conference girls' basketball game Tuesday.

The Lions held a 42-19 lead heading into halftime and used an 18-for-28 shooting night from inside the arc to power past the Orabs. Central Lyon was also 5 of 15 from the 3-point line, while going 15 of 20 from the free-throw line.

Kelsey Ackerman picked up 12 points in the game for the Lions, while Kori Schulte added 10 points.

The Orabs had two players score 12 points in Abbie Provost and Krista Bousema.

The Lions (20-2, 16-2) finished second in the Siouxland and will have a first-round bye in the Class 1A Region 1 tournament. Central Lyon faces the winner of Thursday's first-round game between Trinity Christian and Harris-Lake Park next Tuesday in Rock Rapids.

LAMBERTON -- Melanie Kedl picked up 12 points to lead the Red Rock Central Falcons past the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines Tuesday.

The Falcons had seven players score in the game and used a balanced attack to take a 23-14 lead at halftime. But the Wolverines battled back in the second and were within two points before RRC sank a free throw with just seconds left to seal the win.

Brooke Rasmussen was second on the Falcons in scoring with eight points on the night.

The Wolverines were led by Janessa Peters, who had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Rachel Dukes added 10 points.

The Falcons (3-17, 2-11) travel to Ellsworth Friday and the Wolverines (9-10, 5-8) host Edgerton Friday.

HILLS -- Courtney Place dropped 30 points to power the Southwestern United Wildcats past the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots Tuesday.

Place was 10 of 12 from the free-throw line to help the Wildcats hold off a second-half comeback by the Patriots.

Kailey Wendland was second in scoring for Southwestern United with 15 points on the night.

The Patriots were led by Paige Leuthold, who picked up 13 points and Haley Van Wyhe with 12 points. Taylor Wingert and Meghan Leuthold added 11 points each.

The Wildcats (6-14, 5-8) head to Mountain Lake Monday, while the Patriots (6-13, 3-10) travel to Westbrook-Walnut Grove Friday.

SLAYTON -- Morgan Behrends dropped 20 points to lead the Murray County Central Rebels to a win over the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers Tuesday.

MCC took an early lead in the first half and used a high-pressure defense to cause turnovers throughout the rest of the game.

Jenna Ness had 16 points, four steals and three blocks in the game for the Rebels, while Jade Giese led the team in rebounds with 13. Taylor Schreier had 10 rebounds and led the team in assists with four.

Paige Erickson had a game-high 23 points, 11 rebounds, three block and two assists for the Chargers to go along with 10 points by Kelsi Wahl. Elizabeth Woelber had nine points and four assists in the game.

MCC (9-8, 8-5) takes on Fulda in Fulda Tuesday, while Westbrook-Walnut Grove (8-11, 6-7) hosts Hills-Beaver Creek Friday.

EDGERTON -- Amber Pater scored a game-high 20 points for the Southwest Christian Eagles in a win over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen Tuesday.

The Eagles used solid first-half defense to hold the Dutchmen to just 22 points and were able to maintain their lead for the rest of the game.

Morgan Van Hulzen and Jennifer Schmidt both scored 12 points for Southwest Christian, while Savannah Tinklenberg led the team in rebounds with 10 as well as picking up nine points and three steals.

The Dutchmen were led by Ciara Everett, who had 15 points to go along with 10 points by Marisa Fey. Tara DeKam had eight points and five rebounds, while Tanner Gunnink led the team in rebounds with seven.

The Eagles (16-4, 12-0) travel to Adrian Friday, while the Dutchmen (3-15, 3-10) head to Mountain Lake Friday.

SIBLEY, Iowa -- Bridget Doeden had a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds for Sibley-Ocheyedan, but it was not enough to help the Generals take down Okoboji Tuesday.

The Generals trailed by seven at halftime, but were unable to get over the hump to get the win.

Kayla Ackerman was second in scoring for Sibley-Ocheyedan with 13 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists, while Michaela Wolter had three steals.

Okoboji was led by Megan Peschong, who had 13 points in the game.

The Generals (9-12, 8-10) host Boyden-Hull in the first round of the Class 2A Region 1 Tournament on Saturday.
