PREP BOYS BASEBALL: Windom Area shuts out Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove
WINDOM -- Brandon Thongvivong was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in to lead the Windom Area Eagles to a 10-0 win over the Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Falcons Friday at Island Park.
Zach Bartosh (four strikeouts) pitched four innings without giving up a hit or a walk to get the win for the Eagles, while Collin Lovell threw two innings with five strikeouts and no walks or hits.
Brady Bierl threw five innings for the Falcons in the loss, giving up two runs, four walks and striking out five batters. Colby Davis pitched a third of an inning in the bottom of the sixth and gave up eight runs and three walks.
Windom Area scored once in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead into the third, but the Falcons were able to hold the Eagles scoreless for three straight innings to stay in the game.
However, Windom Area exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early and claim the 10-0 win.
Danny Kneeland was 1 of 3 with an RBI for the Eagles, while Lovell went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Bartosh and Devin Nielsen (two RBI) both picked up hits for Windom Area, while Sam Huska scored two runs and had an RBI.
The Eagles (1-0) travel to Murray County Central today to face the Rebels, while the Falcons host MCC Tuesday.
