Board sets February referendum date

Prep softball: E/SWC powers past RRC

EDGERTON -- Edgerton/Southwest Christian dominated Red Rock Central in a pair of high school softball games Thursday, winning the first game 21-3 and the second 22-5.

Jessica Menning, Tanner Gunnink, Ciara Everett, Tiana Top and Breanna Nelson all had three hits for the winners, and Top was the winning pitcher.

Menning had two home runs and Gunnink also homered.

In the second game, Sidney Esselink homered and drove in six runs. Lindsey VanDyke homered and Menning had four hits.

Nelson, who added three hits of her own, was the winning pitcher.

For RRC, Fern Engen had two hits in the first game and Katie Larson had two, with two RBI, in the second game.

Edgerton/Southwest Christian is 4-0.

PA 7-13, JCC 4-3

JACKSON -- Pipestone Area scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie en route to a 7-4 win in the first game of a Southwest Conference doubleheader. The Arrows also won the nightcap, 13-3.

Amanda Haupert, Megan Remund, Tasia Woelber and Brittany Evans all had two hits for Pipestone in the opener. Haupert went 4-for-4 in the second game, with a home run, and drove in four runs.

Brittany Woodke had two hits for JCC.

OKABENA --Megan Haberman drilled a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game to give Southwest United a 14-13 victory over Adrian in the first game of a twinbill. In the second game, Adrian emerged the victor, 6-5.

Ida Rogers-Ferguson had five hits for SWU in the two games. Andrea Hinkelday homered in the first game.

For Adrian, Rachel Klontz collected five hits on the day.

Southwest United is 2-4 on the season.
