Prep Golf: Sterrett, Spreiter pace LHS golf

JACKSON -- Matthew Sterrett and Mark Spreiter stroked 39s -- three strokes better than their nearest rivals --and the Luverne boys golf team defeated host Jackson County Central 164-175 Tuesday.

JCC won the girls contest 189-215.

Sterrett and Spreiter were complemented by teammates Colton Arends, with a 42, and Blake Stegenga, with a 44. The Huskies were led by Kyle Edlin's 42. JCC's Jack Ringkob had a 43 and John Marker 44.

For the JCC girls, Abby Brinkman earned medalist honors with a 44. Teammates Emma Lilleberg and Alison Benson had 47s and Emmalie Benson had a 51.

Makayla Sterrett and Emilee Johnson both had 48s to lead the Luverne girls.

WHS at Marshall

MARSHALL -- Worthington ran into a red-hot Marshall Boys golf team Tuesday. The Tigers came into the clubhouse with 147 strokes, well ahead of second place Redwood Valley's 159 and the Trojans' 173.

Marshall's Brent Haukom was medalist with a 4-under par 32.

Jacob Woll led the Worthington boys with a 40, followed by teammates Seth Meier and Alex Kremer with 44s, Will Mulder 45, and Zach Heidebrink and Tyler VanHove with 47s.

Marshall also won the girls meet, with 176 strokes. Worthington had 192 and Redwood Valley 198.

The Tigers' Hanna Peterson was medalist with a 39.

For Worthington, Kate Lesnar had a 43. Genna Putnam had 49. Morgan Harberts and McKenzie Hurley had 50 apiece. Kia Veen carded a 61 and Tyree Murray a 64.

One of the highlights for Worthington was the 195 stroked by the B squad boys team.

Fulda Golf Invite

FULDA -- The Murray County Central boys' golf team scored a 302 to take first place out of eight teams at the Fulda Golf Invite.

The Windom Eagles finished second with a 325 team score, followed by Adrian (330), Westbrook-Walnut Grove (336), Fulda (351), Red Rock Central (360) and Southwest Christian (406).

Ben Loosbrook had the lowest score on the day, shooting a 74 for the Rebels, while MCC's Adam Christensen (75), Fulda's Todd Peterson (75), MCC's Grant Everson (76) and W-WG's Dana Madson (76) rounded out the top five scores at the invite.

The Eagles were led by Ryan Clark, who shot a 77, while Justin and Ryan Elias both shot 78s to lead the Dragons. Madson led the Chargers with his 76 and Peterson led the Raiders with a 75. The Falcons lowest scorer was Brandon Sohre (79), while Jay DeBoer shot a 92 to lead the Eagles.

W-WG Golf Invite

WESTBROOK -- The Windom girls golf team finished first at the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Golf Invite with a team score of 351.

Adrian took second with a 389 as a team, followed by Fulda (390), W-WG (394), Murray County Central (405) and Red Rock Central (441).

The Chargers' Abby Herding and the Eagles' Hannah Kloss tied for the lowest score, with both golfers shooting 82s on the day. Marissa Veld led the Dragons with a 92, while Madeline Westra led the Raiders with a 93. Hannah Davis shot a 91 to lead the Rebels and Kylie Redenius shot a 104 to lead the Falcons.
