Board sets February referendum date

Prep Baseball: Jackson County Central gets walk-off win over SWU

JACKSON -- Zach Copley cracked a single to center field to drive in Taylor Christopher with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday afternoon, lifting the Jackson County Central Huskies to a 6-5 victory over the Southwestern United Wildcats in an exciting non-conference high school baseball game at Wacker Field.

JCC led 4-1 early in the game before SWU rallied to take a 5-4 lead with four runs in the sixth and seventh frames -- setting up a two-run output by the Huskies in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win.

Christopher went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases to lead JCC, while Copley finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Kyle Luhmann was 2-for-2 with two walks, three stolen bases and three runs scored, and Josh Thaemlitz drove in two runs for the Huskies.

Christopher pitched the first 5 2/3 innings for JCC, striking out six batters and issuing two walks. Luhmann hurled the final 1 1/3 innings and earned the win.

Aaron Fest pitched a complete game for SWU, striking out six batters and allowing six earned runs on 10 hits and three walks.

Jacob Getzel went 3-for-4 to lead the Wildcats at the plate. Austin Rossow (double, RBI) and Trey Cranston (RBI) each had two hits for SWU.

JCC (6-6) hosts Redwood Valley for a doubleheader today, while SWU (1-10) plays Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Westbrook today.

EDGERTON -- Trailing by one in the bottom of the seventh, the Edgerton/Southwest Christian Flying Dutchmen were able to push two runs across on a dropped fly ball to claim victory over the Murray County Central Rebels Monday.

Dominic Nibbelink was the winning pitcher for the Dutchmen after pitching the final two innings in relief, while Sam Erickson took the loss for the Rebels.

Travis Pierson and Klint Knutson each connected on two hits for E/SWC. Cole Bly hit a bases-loaded double in the seventh to score three runs to lead MCC at the plate.

E/SWC hosts Mountain Lake Area today in a doubleheader, while MCC travels to Adrian today.

Luverne 9-5, Windom 2-1

WINDOM -- Luverne swept a key Southwest Conference doubleheader over Windom Monday at Island Park.

Gunnar Olson went 4-for-4 in the first game, while Brett Heronimus hurled a complete game in the second game for Luverne.

Danny Kneeland had two hits on the day to lead Windom.
