Prep Track: JCC girls, Windom boys win at Eagle

WINDOM -- Winning three of the four relays and getting an individual first-place finish from Annika Lilleberg in the 800-meter run, Jackson County Central tallied 183 points Monday and claimed top honors in the girls' division of the five-team Eagle Invitational high school track and field meet.

Windom sprinter Michael Rivera won both dashes and ran the leadoff leg on the Eagles' 4x100-meter relay, helping the hosts rack up 221 points and win the boys' meet. Distance runner Ryan Helmoski scored 20 points by winning both the 1,600 and 3,200.

Windom, paced by triple-event winner Megan Muller (100, 200, pole vault) was second in the girls' standings with 158 points, followed by Wabasso (105), Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central (94) and Southwestern United (74).

JCC was second in the boys' division with 204 points, followed by W-WG/RRC (142), Wabasso (46) and SWU (11).

W-WG/RRC's Jeff DeCock joined Muller as a three-event first-place finisher, topping the boys' field in the long jump (21-10½), high jump (6-2) and triple jump (43-3½).

Muller clocked times of 13.16 and 27.68, while clearing the bar at 9-6.

Rivera's winning times were 11.09 and 23.25. He teamed with Alex Leopold, Tyler Morgan and Victor Ogeka to win the 4x100, clocked at 46.77.

JCC's girls won the 4x100 (53.99), 4x200 (1:59.01) and 4x800 (11:45.06).

Julia Schumann, Riley Schneekloth and Sydnee Donnelli ran on both the Huskies' 4x100 and 4x200 teams, being joined by Makenna Donnelli in the one-lap race and by Sarah Brandt in the two-lap event.

Kia Holm, Emily Paplow, Lilleberg and Samantha Swift ran the 4x800 for JCC. Lilleberg's winning time in the open 800 was 2:48.39.

W-WG/RRC (Alexa Byers, MaKenzie Deprez, Jordaan Joel and Julianna Pederson) ran a time of 4:57.18 and finished first in the 4x400.

Wabasso's Sarah Ludwig won both hurdle events, running times of 18.42 in the 100-meter highs and 53.16 in the 300-meter lows.

Other individual event winners in the girls' meet were SWU's Gabi Stenzel (400, 1:10.81), SWU's Rachel Salentiny (1,600, 6:00.05), Windom's Christianna Green (3,200, 13:46.87), W-WG/RRC's Melanie Kedl (high jump, 4-8), Wabasso's Beth Zimmerli (long jump, 14-6), W-WG/RRC's Hailey Osland (triple jump, 30-5½), Windom's Holly Larson (discus, 105-2) and Wabasso's Angela Prokosch (shot put, 31-3).

Helmoski clocked times of 5:22.00 and 11:57.45, while Wabasso hurdler Alden Salfer (110 highs, 15.90 and 300 intermediates, 45.94) was also a double winner.

Other individual boys' winners were JCC's Matt Strom (400, 57.23), W-WG/RRC's AJ Jongen (800, 2:22.25), JCC's Austin Bell-Pixler (discus, 128-1), Windom's Trent Bever (shot put, 47-0) and W-WG/RRC's Derek Christians (pole vault, 11-6).

JCC's team of Warren Darling, Darnell Taylor-Breck, Ryan Salzwedel and Matthew Schmit won the 4x200 relay (1:39.17).

W-WG/RRC (Christians, Jongen, DeCock and Levi Bunting) won the 4x400, clocked at 3:52.80 and Windom (Clay Elness, Joe Fischenich, Luis Ramirez and Alex Nelson) finished first in the 4x800 with a time of 9:46.20.
