Prep Softball: Pipestone softball team eases past Luverne

PIPESTONE -- Rolling on, the Pipestone Area girls softball team advanced to 14-1 on the season Tuesday with a 9-0 and 17-5 doubleheader triumph over Southwest Conference rival Luverne.

Tasia Woelber got the pitching win in the first game, going the first four innings and recording 10 strikeouts. Amanda Haupert went 2-for-4 at the plate and Arrows teammate Cassie Evans went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

In the second game, Kelly Nettik went the distance for the win, walking one and striking out six. She also helped herself at the plate, getting three hits and three RBI. Teammate Paige Petersen had three hits with a double and three RBI and Libby Schneider drove in three runs with two hits.

For Luverne, Kristen Reisdorfer and Ellen Dahl homered. They, along with Alexis Hiller, had two hits in the game.

SANBORN -- Ida Rogers-Ferguson struck out eight batters in a complete game victory as Southwestern United defeated Red Rock Central, 8-6.

The Wildcats (4-9, 4-6) broke on top early, scoring four runs in the first inning and two in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Red Rock Central came back with three in the fourth and two in the fifth to trim the margin to 6-5, but could get no closer.

Taylor Willhite (four strikeouts, four walks) took the loss in a complete game.

Sam Obermoller was 3-for-4, including a double and a pair of RBI to lead SWU at the plate, while Jenny Jimenez (2-for-3), Rachel Mathias (2-for-4) and Stephanie Kazemba (2-for-4) each had a pair of hits for the Wildcats, who host Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in Okabena Thursday.

Angela Hanneman went 2-for-3 with two RBI for RRC and Katie Larsen was 2-for-4.

The Falcons (0-13, 0-8) play a doubleheader at Mountain Lake Thursday.
