Trojan Golf: Lesnar, Harberts score in 30s for WHS golf

WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington girls' golf team, led by low medalist Kate Lesnar, shot a season low 165 to run away with the girls' meet Thursday at Prairie View Golf Course.

"The girls' score is for sure a season low and I think it might be the lowest score we have had in at least a decade as a team," WHS coach Ron Wood said. "To have two girls finish in the 30s is unbelievable."

The girls beat out Red Rock Central for first, with the Falcons shooting a 215 as a team. Kylie Redinius led RRC with a 48.

Lesnar shot a season low 33, while teammate Morgan Harberts finished with a 39 to take second at the meet. Lesnar eagled on No. 1 and also birdied on No. 6 and No. 8. Harberts shot her first career score under 40, using a birdie on No. 6 to help her cause.

Tyree Murray (45), Genna Putnam (48), McKenzie Hurley (51) and Kia Veen (53) rounded out the Trojans scoring on the day.

"It is a really exciting day for the girls to break those barriers and get into the 160s as a team," Wood said.

On the boys' side, Worthington fielded two complete varsity teams, with the Black team taking first with a 170, while the Red team shot a 171. Red Rock Central finished the day with a 198 as a team. Mountain Lake Area had an incomplete team.

"I was pleased with the boys' scores," Wood said. "Both teams shot really well and the fact that they were so close to each other at the end shows how competitive we are amongst ourselves."

The Black team's Will Mulder and Mountain Lake Area's Aaron Walzak tied for low medalist, with each golfer shooting a 40.

Seth Meier (42), Tyler VanHove (42), Caleb Kill (46) and Jaren Solt (52) rounded out the scoring for the Black team. The Red team was led by Jacob Woll and Zach Heidebrink, who each shot 41s, followed by Alex Kremer (42) and Jacob Weg (47).

Red Rock Central was led by Brandon Sohre, who shot a 44.

Worthington's next match is Monday in the Southwest Conference Tournament in Marshall.

"You can't ask for much more out of these kids," Wood said. "We are just about where we need to be but we will have to play an "A-plus" match Monday to be competitive in the conference tournament."

W-WG boys' top Lakeview

WESTBROOK -- Taylor Lindaman led the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys' golf team to a win over Lakeview, while the Chargers fell in the girls' division Thursday.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove finished with a 165 as a team in the boys' meet, followed by Lakeview's 192.

Lindaman shot a 38 to grab the low score on the day, followed by Dana Madson (40), Reed Bakken (41) and Walker Christians (46) to combine for the Chargers team total.

On the girls' side, Avoree Bakken shot a 50 to lead the Chargers (low score), while Paige Erickson (55), Abby Herding (58) and Mariah Olson (63) rounded out the scoring for W-WG.

The Chargers play in the Sub-Section Thursday at Prairie View Golf Course in Worthington.
