Prep Softball: SWU routs RRC, 20-2

OKABENA -- The Southwestern United Wildcats put together a dominant 20-2 performance versus Red Rock Central in a five-inning pigtail game Friday to advance to the second round of the Section 3A Southern Division softball tournament.

After the Falcons scored two runs in the top of the first inning, the Wildcats engineered a 10-run bottom half to take a 10-2 lead.

Southwestern United scored another seven runs in the second to take control of the game for good.

Ida Rogers-Ferguson came away with the win for the Wildcats, giving up just three hits while striking out four batters over five innings. Taylor Willhite took the loss for the Falcons, pitching all four innings while walking seven batters.

Megan Haberman led SWU at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a grand slam. Rogers-Ferguson, Rachel Mathias and Mariah Crowell added two hits apiece, while Elizabeth Rossow was 3-for-3.

Katie Larson, Angela Hannemann and Fern Engen had the only hits for RRC.

With the win, the Wildcats will play No. 2 Wabasso Tuesday in Wabasso. The winner plays a second game Tuesday against the winner of the No. 6 Windom vs. No. 3 Murray County Central game played earlier.

JCC 14, Blue Earth Area 3

JACKSON -- Brittany Woodke and Jasmine Erickson combined for five hits and seven runs to power the Jackson County Central offense in a victory over Blue Earth Area Friday.

Blue Earth Area took a 3-0 lead after half an inning, but JCC put up four runs of its own to jump out in front. The Huskies piled on seven more runs in the second and another three runs in the third to secure the five-inning win.

Brooke Klontz got the win for the Huskies after pitching all five innings and giving up just three runs.

Woodke knocked in four runs on three hits for JCC, while Erickson picked up three RBIs on two hits. Moira Carlson and Klontz also had two hits for the Huskies.

Jackson County Central takes on Worthington in the opening round of the Section 3AA Southern Division softball tournament Tuesday in New Ulm.
