WHS swept at Mankato West Triangular
MANKATO -- The Worthington Trojans girls tennis team lost to Shakopee and Mankato West 7-0 during a triangular Thursday in Mankato.
Shakopee's No. 1 singles player Haley Lickfold defeated Emily Williamson 6-1, 6-1, while Taylor Koenen and Dannick Boyogueno shut out Worthington's Rachel Drietz and Laura Wetering 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively. At No. 4 singles, Ashka Ramkumar knocked off the Trojans' Miranda LeBrun, winning 6-0, 6-3.
Worthington's No. 1 doubles team of Annie Lesnar and Brianna Kempema fell to Jes Svac and Kayla Schmidt 6-0, 6-2, while Makensie Carstensen and Sarah Janssen lost to Shakopee's Abby Wondrasch and Jamie Lindstrom 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Ally Kudrle and Serina Fischer rounded out Shakopee's sweep of Worthington by taking down Alicia Khatt and Erika Schutte at No. 3 doubles.
In their second game against Mankato West, the Trojans won just three sets in all four singles matches combined, including two sweeps by Mankato West's No. 1 singles player Julia Snelson over Carstensen and No. 3 singles player Melissa Lager over Schutte. Janssen fell to Andrea Erdman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Khatt lost to Marissa Swenson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Worthington fared marginally better in its doubles matches against Mankato West, with No. 1 doubles team Williamson and Wetering losing to Emily Smith and Lia Spencer 6-2, 6-4, while the Trojans' No. 3 doubles team of Lesnar and Kempema fell to Lauren Meyer and Maddie Mueller 6-2, 6-4. Lynn Braun and Kendra Allen completed the sweep for Mankato West with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Drietz and LeBrun at No. 2 doubles.
Worthington (1-2) hosts Luverne, Martin County West and Pipestone Area Saturday at the Worthington Invitational at the Worthington Middle School starting at 9 a.m.
