Six new WHS Hall inductees to be introduced at football game


WORTHINGTON — Six individuals will be introduced at halftime of Friday’s Worthington-Windom Area football game as new inductees into the Worthington High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Four outstanding athletes and two coaches make up the 2013 class. A summary of the inductees:

Dave Peterson

Class of 1985

Football – Lettered three years; All-Conference; Daily Globe All-Area; All-State; WCCO Player of the Week; WCCO Team of the Year; WHS Most

Valuable Offensive Player; Participant on state tournament teams in the fall of 1983 and 1984.

Wrestling – Lettered one year; All-Conference; Qualified for individual state tournament at 167 lbs; Team state tournament participant.

College – Worthington Community College (football), Bemidji State University (football) and Alexandria Technical College.

Currently resides in Wyoming, Minn., with his wife Cathryn and children Brady and Courtney; employed as a Sergeant for the St. Paul Police Dept.

Shelby (Eykyn) Quail

Class of 2002

Track – Five-time letterwinner; 11-time Southwest Conference champion in five different events; 11-time state meet qualifier in five different

events; State champion in 100-meter high hurdles in 2002; State True Team participant; Member of three Southwest Conference championship teams.

Volleyball – Lettered three years; two-time All-Conference and Daily Globe All-Area; Most Valuable as a senior.

Basketball – Lettered three years; two-time All-Conference and Daily Globe All-Area.

Academics – Member of National Honor Society; Academic All-State.

College – Attended Augustana College and participated in track; three-time All-American; school record-holder in three events.

Currently resides in San Diego, Calif.; Married to Jacob Quail and is a stay-at-home mom to sons Benjamin and Samuel.

Dale Solt

WHS wrestling coach for 25 years

Wrestling coach (head coach and assistant) at WHS for 25 years; Assistant baseball coach for 10 years; Industrial arts/Tech teacher at WHS.

1992 State Class AA Wrestling Coach of the Year; 1992 and 1993 Section 2AA Wrestling Coach of the Year.

Currently resides in the Reading, MN area with his wife Kathy and son Jaren.

Shelly Eklund

WHS gymnastics coach for 22 years

Head gymnastics coach at Worthington High School from 1986 to 2008; also coached softball and track at WHS.

Graduated from Centennial High School; Lettered in gymnastics, swimming, track and dance.

Received degree in education from Gustavus Adolphus College.

Gymnastics teams at WHS won four Southwest Conference championships and four Section 3A championships; coached an individual in the state meet.

Currently resides in Rosemount, Minn., with her daughter Jaeleigh; Teaches in the Eagan school district and head gymnastics coach since 2008.

Kaitlin (Haack) Graff

Class of 2003

Gymnastics – Six-time letter winner; All-Conference, All-State, Team MVP; qualified for state tournament all six years, including seven individual

section championships and 24 individual section medals; member of three conference championship teams and three section championship teams.

Track – Lettered five years; Southwest Conference champion in the 100-meter dash and 4x100 Relay; member of school record holding 4x100

relay team; member of two SW Conference championship teams and two State True Team qualifying teams.

Academics – National Honor Society; Senior Student of Excellence; graduated with highest honors. College – Attended UW-LaCrosse; participated in gymnastics; two-time national finalist in vault; member of three national team champions; Academic All-American.

Currently resides in Burnsville, Minn., with her husband Mike and son Ryland; office administrator at First Evangelical Free Church in Minneapolis.

Troy Timmons

Class of 1992

Basketball – Lettered four years; All-Conference, Daily Globe All-Area; 1,394 career points; member of 1992 Section 2AA runner-up team.

College – Attended Dakota State University and University of Sioux Falls; participated in basketball.

Currently resides in Sioux Falls, S.D., with his wife Paula and their three children; owner of KB Sprinklers Company in Sioux Falls.
