Iowa volleyball: H-LP one step closer to state tournament

LAKE PARK, Iowa — Noreen Morrow delivered 23 attack kills as the Harris-Lake Park Wolves swept Newell-Fonda 25-16, 25-12, 25-19 Friday to move to within a victory of a state tournament trip.

Harris-Lake Park will play Central Lyon on Wednesday for the Region 1 Class A championship. The showdown begins at 7 p.m. in George.

Central Lyon defeated Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn 3-0 on Friday to advance to the final.

Morrow has led the Wolves’ offense throughout the fall season, but on Friday she got plenty of help. Teammate Macy Gunderson set up the H-LP offense with 34 set assists. Kathrine Ihnen contributed seven kills to the effort while Megan Garms and Miranda Brueggeman each added five.

As well as the offense played, the Wolves’ defense was also sterling, as evidenced by Grace Heikens’ 14 digs. Brueggeman, Gunderson and Grace Winters added 10 apiece.

Garms was 19-for-19 serving, Morrow was 11-for-12 and Winters was also 11-for-12. Garms scored 15 points on her serves and Winters scored nine.

Morrow and Gunderson each had a block.
