LUVERNE —The Ellsworth boys basketball team produced its second win in as many nights Friday in Luverne.

The Panthers put together a second half that allowed them to pull away from their hosts after leading 37-31 at halftime. Ellsworth won the game, 72-54.

Jonathon Kramer finished with 23 points, leading all scorers. Drew Cheskie added 17 and Trei Hinrichs chipped in 11.

Kramer finished with six three-pointers in the contest and Hinrichs was 3-for-3 from long range, which kept the Panthers ahead in a tight first half.

Luverne’s Josh Slieter led his team with 18 points and a dozen rebounds. Nolan Sawtelle scored 11 for the Cards.

Ellsworth travels to Pipestone Area Tuesday night. Luverne hosts Southwest Christian.

“The slow start was my main concern, but we hung in there,” Ellsworth boys basketball coach J.D. Roberts said. “We were able to withstand an early run they made. I knew we’d be OK if we could come out and have a better second half.”
