Girls basketball: S-O trips G-LR; Sheldon tops Boyden-Hull

SIBLEY, Iowa — Sibley-Ocheyedan started its girls basketball season in winning fashion Tuesday night.

The Generals defeated George-Little Rock 61-53 in Sibley.

G-LR went on runs in the second and fourth quarters, but the Generals finished off the win. The Mustangs trailed by just two points at halftime.

S-O senior Alyssa Stofferan scored 13 points for her team. Bridget Doeden and Kayla Ackerman each added a dozen points.

The Generals gained seven rebounds and four steals from Doeden. Ackerman helped on the offensive end with five assists. Michaela Wolter snatched seven steals.

“We should’ve finished stronger,” Sibley-Ocheyedan coach Jeremy Leusink said. “They went on runs to make it closer than it was for the rest of the game. They’re a good team.”

Sheldon 48, Boyden-Hull 29

SHELDON, Iowa — Sheldon used a big run in the third quarter to roll past Boyden-Hull 48-29. The Orabs sit at 2-0.

The Orabs enjoyed 16 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals from senior Krista Bousema on the night. Emily Johnson (14) and Sami Kleinwolterink (12) each secured double figures for the team.

Sheldon finished 12-of-16 from the charity stripe, a marked improvement from a 4-of-17 effort in their first go-round of the season.

Sheldon held the Comets scoreless for six minutes, as a staunch press led to meaningful possessions and a 15-2 run by the home team.
