Girls basketball: Wabasso edges Fulda; Luverne beats Edgerton

FULDA — Fulda surrendered a five-point halftime lead in a close 55-49 girls basketball loss to Wabasso Friday night.

The Raiders had two players scoring double digits in the loss, with Sariah Cheadle scoring 29 points and Melissa Gehl getting 12. Chelsey Guetter scored 15 points to lead the Rabbits as an increased defensive stand helped them to rally.

Wabasso remained unbeaten at 5-0. Fulda fell to 3-2 overall with the loss.

Luverne 52, Edgerton 48

EDGERTON —Luverne earned a six-point halftime lead and utilized the double-figure scoring of Tayla Peterson (15), Lexi Rust (13) and Morgan Haugen (13) to post a victory over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen.

Marisa Fey scored 12 points and dished off four assists for the Dutchmen, while Tanner Gunnink produced a double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 points.

Edgerton (1-2) hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove in a Red Rock Confernce game Tuesday. Luverne, also 1-2, hosts Hills-Beaver Creek Monday.

Okoboji 53, Central Lyon 34

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — The Okoboji Pioneers used strong second and third quarters to defeat Central Lyon 53-34.

Darby Jones led the Pioneers with 12 points and Abby Taylor scored 10. Central Lyon’s Sarah Halse scored 12 points.

The Lions dropped to 1-4 overall with the loss and is 0-4 in Siouxland Conference play. The Lions travel to Boyden-Hull Tuesday evening.

Sioux Center 57, Sibley-Ocheyedan 47

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa —Sioux Center used three players in double figures to down Sibley-Ocheyedan 57-47 in a tight game.

The Warriors had junior Haley Sitzmann scoring 12 points in the win. Madison Beaver and McKayla Horstman each scored 11.

Bridget Doeden scored 19 points to lead Sibley-Ocheyedan. Jennifer Willemssen scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Michaela Wolter had four assists and three steals in the loss.

Sibley-Ocheyedan fell to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Siouxland Conference.
