Boys basketball: R-T-R boys clip MCC; JCC rains three-pointers


SLAYTON — Brett Peterson scored 23 points and Brett Vercruysse added 21 as Russell-Tyler-Ruthton defeated host Murray County Central 68-61 Thursday in a high school boys basketball game.

Peterson hit seven of 16 two-point field goals and one of four three-pointers. He also converted six of his eight free throws and pulled down nine rebounds. Vercruysse was nine for 15 from the field and three of four at the line, with three assists and 10 4 rebounds.

As a team, R-T-R made 23 of 43 shots from two-point land and four of 12 from beyond the arc. Jaden Boerboom had 18 points for MCC while teammates Grant Rohrer and Grant Everson chipped in with 15 and 14, respectively.

Everson had three assists and Rohrer 14 rebounds.

TRIMONT — The threes were falling in Trimont. Jackson County Central connected on 14 three-point shots and Martin County West made 12. But only one team could win.

JCC prevailed by eight after breaking away from a 25-25 halftime tie.

Zach Schwarting paced the victorious Huskies with 23 points, helped by six three-pointers. Darnell Taylor-Breck had 19 points along with is four three-point conversions. Jon Harmening scored 15 points with 15 rebounds, and he hit three three-pointers. Brady Place had three threes of his own and finished with 11 points.

Cordell Weber had 23 points (five three-point shots) and Richard Eckmann 15 (on five threes) for Martin County West.

JCC moved to 6-5 with the victory.

GEORGE, Iowa —Jesse Koerselman scored 20 points, including 18 in the final 12 minutes, as George-Little Rock dumped northwest Iowa rival Harris-Lake Park.

Fighting foul trouble for most of the game, Koerselman also had 12 rebounds to help his team improve to 3-5 on the season. Teammate Tanner Ver Steeg scored 14 points.

Skylar Cudmore and Brady Van Iperen scored 12 points apiece to lead Harris-Lake Park. Cudmore had seven rebounds. Teammate Jordan Kyle pulled down eight.

The two teams were separated by just four points with seven minutes remaining in the game. H-LP, saddled with foul trouble for much of the evening, fell to 5-3 with the loss.
