Prep wrestling: Worthington goes 3-1 in Luverne Duals


LUVERNE — Hser Eh Pwae, Hser Moo Pwae, Jacob Prunty, Anthony Luft, Blake Schroeder and Carson Hagen all went undefeated on the mat as the Worthington Trojans wrestling team went 3-1 Saturday at the Luverne Team Duals.

In the first round, Worthington lost to Blue Earth Area 47-23 while Luverne beat Sheldon, Iowa, 48-30, Wabasso/Red Rock Central beat Brandon Valley, S.D., 43-23 and Pipestone Area beat Sioux Falls Lincoln 69-9.

In the second round, Brandon Valley topped Luverne 55-24, Blue Earth Area beat Pipestone Area 44-22, Worthington dumped Sioux Falls Lincoln 71-12 and Wabasso/RRC was a 63-10 winner over Sheldon.

In round three, Wabasso/RRC beat Luverne 52-15, Pipestone Area edged Brandon Valley 42-37, Blue Earth Area beat Sioux Falls Lincoln 72-6 and Worthington drilled Sheldon 78-6.

Then in the fourth round, Luverne topped Sioux Falls Lincoln 47-28, Blue Earth Area nipped Wabasso/RRC 29-26, Pipestone Area ripped Sheldon 57-9 and Worthington took care of Brandon Valley 54-21.

Barring forfeits, Eh Pwae went 2-0 for the Trojans while Moo Pwae went 2-0, Prunty 2-0, Luft 1-0, Schroeder 3-0 and Hagen 3-0.

Schroeder won all three of his matches by falls, pinning Blue Earth Area’s Kolt Gorg in 1:01, Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Max Hooker in 1:21 and Brandon Valley’s Eric Eigenberg in 1:35. Prunty won both of his matches at 106 pounds by fall and Hagen won two of his three matches at 195 via fall. Another Trojan, Zach Kempema, went 3-1 in the tournament at 160 and 170 pounds, winning three by fall.

Pipestone Area’s Michael Suda, Walker Kor and Brady Bos went undefeated on the day. Bos recorded his 150th career victory.

Lake City Tourney

LAKE CITY — Joe Fischenich and Jared Willaby won championships for Windom/Mountain Lake in the Lake City Tournament.

Fischenich decisioned Jacy Ball of St. Charles for first place at 120 pounds. Willaby defeated Mason Moreno of Hayfield 5-2 to win the 132-pound title.

Cobra Wyatt Stevens placed second at 113 pounds, falling in the finals 6-5 to Jared Goldsmith of Chatfield.

Andrew Larson was third at 160 pounds for Windom/Mountain Lake.
