Boys basketball: Harmening boosts JCC past Arrows, Adrian downs Fulda

JACKSON —  In part thanks to a steal, a two-handed slam dunk and made free throws by senior Jon Harmening with roughly two minutes remaining, Jackson County Central held on for a thrilling four-point win over Pipestone Area in an exciting Southwest Conference boys basketball game played Thursday night in Jackson.

With their 76-72 victory, the Huskies moved to 11-7 on the season and 5-4 in the league. Pipestone Area moved to 9-8 overall and 5-4 in the SWC.

Harmening scored 34 points for JCC and collected 14 rebounds. Zach Schwarting added 11 points and Brady Place 10. Justin Ropps amassed 18 for Pipestone Area, Dominic Freese scored 15 and Boyer Bouman offered 13.

Adrian 78, Fulda 43

ADRIAN — With three players offering double-digit scoring, the Adrian Dragons ran past Fulda at home.

Nick Reyne put up 24 points and dished out four assists on the night to his Adrian teammates. Brady Lonneman scored 22. Taylor Recker collected 10 rebounds.

For the Raiders, Josh Ramerth led the way with 13 points. Bennett Appel had seven boards for the evening.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 79, Red Rock Central 40

LAMBERTON – Three players scored in double figures as Tracy-Milroy-Balaton defeated Red Rock Central.

The Panthers assumed a comfortable 41-28 halftime lead and outscored the Falcons 38-12 in the second half.

Josh Kirk led the winners with 20 points while Brett Swenhaugen added 16. Riley Kirk had 15 points and six rebounds. Teammate Brady Lanoue also had six rebounds. Swenhaugen and Spencer Smith had three assists apiece.

Luke Engen, Tom Blomgren and Austin Price all had nine points for RRC and Taylor Bunting added eight. Sam Halter had eight rebounds.

The loss drops RRC to 0-16 on the season.

Marshall 71, Luverne 48

MARSHALL — Marshall senior C.D. Douglas scored 18 points, had eight steals, five assists and five rebounds as his Tigers remained unbeaten in the Southwest Conference with a 71-48 win over Luverne.

The Cardinals trailed 43-23 at halftime and the Tigers cruised in the second half to their win. Riley Sharbono added 16 points for Marshall.

Josh Slieter scored 15 points and had five rebounds for Luverne. Quinton Siebenahler chipped in 13 points and four boards for the Cardinals who dropped to 3-15 overall and 0-8 in the conference. Marshall is now 14-3 and 9-0 in the SWC.

Cedar Mountain-Comfrey 69, Westbrook-Walnut Grove 60

COMFREY — Westbrook-Walnut Grove couldn’t climb over the hump against Cedar Mountain-Comfrey.

The Chargers trimmed the contest’s deficit to two points at several junctures, but offensive rebounds and put back shots plagued the team all night against the Cougars. W-WG goes to 8-11 on the season.

Shane Buchman scored 26 points for the visiting Chargers with a dozen rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Alex Knutson added 12 points while Matt Otto had five rebounds and five assists.
