Boys basketball: SWC downs MACCRAY, SWU escapes Ellsworth

EDGERTON — Drilling 10 three-pointers and having more than twice as many assists (17) as turnovers (eight), Southwest Minnesota Christian improved to 16-2 for the season with a non-conference boys basketball win over MACCRAY Monday.

Nate Pfeifle connected on six of those three-pointers for Southwest, finishing with a team-high 26 points, along with seven rebounds.

Leighton Sampson had a huge game for the Eagles as he put down a trio of dunks as part of his 25 points, while also claiming 11 rebounds, blocking three shots and dishing off a trio of assists.

Jake Robinson (12 points) and Clayton Huisken (five steals, three assists, three rebounds) helped SWC maintain a double-digit advantage most of the game.

Bailey Boike and and Carter Asche scored 27 and 26 points, respectively, for the Wolverines.

Southwestern United 53, Ellsworth 52

ELLSWORTH — Aaron Fest and Trey Cranston scored 18 and 14 points, respectively, to lead Southwestern United to a one-point victory over the Ellsworth Panthers. Fest netted 14 of his points in the first half and Cranston dished off seven assists as the Wildcats won their fifth straight game and improved to 9-6 overall and a solid 8-3 in the Red Rock Conference.

Drew Cheskie scored a game-high 26 points and had nine rebounds for the Panthers (15-6, 10-4), while Mitch Leuthold tallied nine points and Johnathan Kramer had five assists.

Jackson County Central 78, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 64

TRACY — Jon Harmening scored 29 points and snagged 17 rebounds to lead Jackson County Central to a 14-point non-conference win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

Zach Schwarting helped the Huskies (12-8) with a 23-point, six-rebound performance, as JCC was up by 20 points once in the second half and held a double-figure lead most of the game, snapping a five-game Panther winning streak.

GEORGE, Iowa —Tanner Ver Steeg scored 24 points and Jesse Koerselman contributed 14 points, along with seven rebounds, as George-Little Rock cruised past Clay Central-Everly in a non-conference clash.

Jesup Mahlbauer scored seven points for the Mavericks.

TRUMAN — Taking a five-point lead on three straight three-pointers by junior guard Cole Dierks, the Raiders couldn’t finish.

The Raiders had senior Josh Ramerth leading the way with 16 points and 10 boards. Bennett Appel scored 15 and Dierks 14.

SLAYTON — Windom Area pulled away in the second half for a 14-point road win over Murray County Central.

Jacob Gotto paced the Eagles with 15 points and seven rebounds. Bryce Bever put up 14 points with eight rebounds.

For MCC, Grant Rohrer (19 points), Jaden Boerboom (15) and Grant Everson (14) led the way.
