Wrestling: Adrian looks tough; W/ML, JCC strong

DELL RAPIDS, S.D. — Gearing up for next week’s sectional tournament, the Adrian Dragons routed Dell Rapids, S.D., 58-18 and Mc Cook Central 61-18 in high school wrestling action Thursday.

Skylar Hieronimus won both his matches by pins at 113 pounds, taking Dell Rapids’ Scott Warwick down in 47 seconds and Mc Cook Central’s Paul Lauck in 42 seconds. Tony Lynn also pinned two opponents at 145 pounds, securing Dell Rapids’ Lathen Gorospe in 5:30 and Mc Cook Central’s Tanner Grocott in 1:37.

Ryan Elias won twice for the Dragons at 126, pinning Dell Rapids’ Xander Vlestra in 1:12 and decisioning Mc Cook’s Carl Brueining 9-1.

Logan Rogers won by fall in 1:40 for Adrian at 152 pounds against Dell Rapids’ Jacob Huewe and teammates Andy McCann (182) and Ben Taracena (195) also pinned their Dell Rapids opponents. Adrian’s Greg Kern pinned Mc Cook Central’s Jordan Scheier in 4:51 at 120. And at 152 Hunter Heitkamp pinned Mc Cook’s Justin Reif in 21 seconds. Dylan Gyberg (195) and Gavin Engelkes (220) also earned falls for AHS against Mc Cook Central.

Adrian finishes the regular season with a 28-5 record.

W/ML 65, Marshall 12

MARSHALL — Visiting Windom/Mountain Lake won the first seven matches en route to a one-sided victory over Southwest Conference rival Marshall. Alex Borsgard started the run at 106 pounds with a 12-0 major decision over Dylan Dulas, followed by victories by Evan Wiens at 113 pounds (fall in 1:08), Wyatt Stevens at 120 (forfeit), Hunter Quiring at 126 (fall in 3:23), Joe Fischenich at 132 (5-1), Jared Willaby at 138 (fall in 3:20) and Luis Ramirez at 145 (18-6 major decision).

Other Cobra victories were turned in by Ben Matter at 160 (fall in 10 seconds) and Gavin Mutz at 170 (fall in 5:56), Austin Ewing (195), Julio Gutierrez (220) and Vince Johnson (HWT) won by forfeits.

JCC, Redwood Valley at Luverne

LUVERNE — Jackson County Central earned two wins in a Southwest Conference triangular meet in Luverne. The Huskies defeated Luverne 39-30 and Redwood 57-24 to improve to 18-4 on the season. Luverne defeated Redwood Valley, 49-26.

The Huskies had falls earned by Justin Heckard (106), Zachary Poelart (113) and Wyatt Cleberg (120) to begin their meet with Redwood Valley. JCC then received two forfeits and had a 7-3 decision earned at 138 pounds by Dakota Rossow. Redwood Valley answered with three straight pins, but JCC had pins in four of the match’s last five bouts to win. Against Luverne, JCC had wins coming in seven weight classes while Luverne had pins earned by Jared Dooyema (138) and Solomon Nielson (145).

Against Redwood Valley, Luverne had wins in nine weight classes. Wins for the hometown Cardinals came by Riley Baker at 106, Jayden Renken at 113, Cody Hess at 126, Adam Fodness at 132, Dooyema at 138, Nielson at 145, Spencer Oeltjenbruns at 182 and D.J. Reker at 220.
