Girls basketball: Luverne, MCC both victorious in overtime

ELLSWORTH — A double overtime thriller saw Luverne gain a victory, despite Ellsworth’s Alexa Huisman scoring her 1,000th point in Minnesota high school girls’ basketball action Monday evening in Ellsworth. 

Tara Sudenga scored 19 points for the Cardinals and Morgan Haugan scored 11.

Huisman had 24 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers. Brenna Kramer had 15.

Murray County Central 65, Mountain Lake Area 61 OT

SLAYTON — It took extra time to separate the Murray County Central Rebels from the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines, but MCC snagged the victory.

Jade Giese had a huge night for MCC. She scored 27 points to go with 14 rebounds. Rebekah Nysetvold added 14 points and Morgan Behrends scored eight while snagging 12 rebounds. Sierra Van Ipren had four steals and five assists.

MLA was led by Stacey Harder with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Rachel Dukes and Signey Stoesz had 14 and 13 points, respectively. Brianna Soutthivong corralled seven rebounds and Whitney Klassen had two steals and three assists.
