Section 3A boys basketball: Edgerton trims RRC


LAMBERTON — Austin Mertens scored 27 points and had nine rebounds as Edgerton Public defeated Red Rock Central 63-47 Friday to kick off the Section 3A boys basketball tournament.

Mason Sluis scored 13 points with nine rebounds and five assists and Wyatt Butson scored 11 points. Riley Van Klei added 10 rebounds for the winners.

Thomas Blomgren led RRC with 14 points while teammate Austin Price contributed 13. Sam Halter scored seven points to go along with 10 rebounds.

RRC, which finishes the season with a 1-23 record, made only three of 24 three-point attempts.

Edgerton advances to play Southwest Christian today at 11 a.m. in Worthington. Southwest is the No. 1 seed in the southern half of the section.

Edgerton is the ninth seed. RRC was seeded No. 8.
