Girls basketball: Falcons nip MCC; Southwest’s Veldkamp shines at Ellsworth

LAMBERTON — With the game tied at 48 points with approximately five seconds left on the clock, Red Rock Central’s Erika Rogotzke pulled up and drained a game winning three-pointer to lift the Falcons over the Murray County Central Rebels, 51-48, in a barn-burner of a Minnesota high school girls’ basketball showdown Monday night.

RRC’s Rachel Kedl finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and six steals. Melanie Kedl had 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Sierra Van Iperen had a solid all-around effort for the Rebels. She scored 21 to go with eight rebounds and seven steals. Jade Giese scored 13 and had nine boards and Rebekah Nysetvold added 10 points.

SWC 75, Ellsworth 65

ELLSWORTH — Hope Veldkamp’s 27 points allowed Southwest Minnesota Christian to break the halftime deadlock and gain a victory over the Ellsworth Panthers.

Tianna Top scored 14.

Hannah Mulder had a double double for Ellsworth with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Alexa Huisman added 17 points and Alissa Walters scored 15.

Fulda 84, Edgerton 61

FULDA — Fulda looked impressive in their regular season finale as they defeated the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen.

Courtney Tiesler dropped a career-high 26 points as she flirted with a triple double, dishing off eight assists and snagging eight rebounds. Melissa Gehl scored 27 points, 16 boards, and four steals. Dani Hermeling added 12 points.

Mia Wassink led Edgerton with 17 and Tanner Gunnink added 16.

WESTBROOK — Freshman Sadie Stelter scored 30 of Lakeview’s 65 points as they picked up a win over the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers.

Elizabeth Woelber led the Chargers with 22 points and six rebounds. Emma Woelber and Kaylee Mischke each had 10.

MOUNTIAN LAKE — Courtney Place led the Southwestern United Wildcats over the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines for a well-deserved victory.

Place had a triple double for SWU, scoring 22, grabbing 11 rebounds and swatting 10 shots. Kailey Wendland added 16.

Stacey Harder had 18 points and five rebounds. Signey Stoesz contributed 12.

ADRIAN — The Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots defeated the Adrian Dragons in a low scoring affair Monday night.

H-BC was led by Taylor Wingert with 16 points. Avery VanRoeke scored 11 to go with 12 boards. Kelli Esselink had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Nicole Slater and Bailey Grussing each scored eight for Adrian.

TRACY — Jackson County Central had trouble finding the basket in the second half of a win for Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

Cassandra Hook scored 16 for T-M-B. Sammie Gervais added 11 and Kassidy Przymus and Kasey Hoek each had nine.

Kaylee Burmeister led the Huskies with 15. Blaney Markman and Sydney Eddy each added eight.
