Prep sports: Windom baseball team falls; Adrian softball team splits


LAKE CRYSTAL— Despite being down 7-2 in the fourth inning, the Windom Area Eagles fought back in their baseball game Thursday night.

It just wasn’t enough. Windom Area lost 7-5 to Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial.

The Eagles hit the ball well, finishing with 12 hits. Zach Bartosh led Windom with three hits, and Sam Huska and Jeff Pfeffer had two hits apiece. Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial finished the contest with only eight hits, led by Mark Jacobs with three.

Pitching for the Eagles were Taylor Quiring, Brian Turner, Jack Mellstrom and Devin Nielsen. Nielsen ended up taking the loss, pitching only two-thirds of an inning, giving up one run on two walks and two hits.

For the Knights, Bryson Yaydel picked up the win, pitching five innings with four earned runs on seven hits and three strikeouts.

ELLSWORTH — The Murray County Central Rebels throttled the Adrian Dragons 8-1 in the Dragons’ first game Thursday, then Adrian recovered to beat Windom Area 10-7.

In the first game, Kristi Bose won it in the circle for MCC, walking two batters and fanning two. Bailey Grussing took the loss for Adrian, walking eight and striking out two.

Heidi Nolte went 2-4 and Grussing went 2-3 for Adrian.

In the nightcap, Devin Dreesen took the win pitching, walking five and striking out three, while the losing pitcher was Meghan Vesey. Megan Theesfeld had a two-run homer in the third inning for Windom Area, and Kelly Riordan went 2-4.

For Adrian, Amy Bents went 2-4 with two RBIs, Grussing went 2-4 with one RBI, and Alicia Lunt went 3-4 with three RBIs, all coming from a two-out double with the bases loaded in the fourth.

Adrian’s record is now 1-3.
