Prep golf: Fifth score decides Adrian-Fulda match


ADRIAN — A 52 decided the Adrian-Fulda boys golf match Thursday in Adrian.

The teams tied 188-188, but the tie was broken when it was learned Fulda’s Jason Van Dyke shot a 52 — the lower score among the fifth-best finishers.

Adrian won the girls meet 186-219.

Fulda’s boys were led by Cole Dierks (45), Joey Voss (47), Justin Dierks (48) and Brandon Everett (48). Ryan Elias shot a 42 for Adrian. Other Dragons’ scores: Ben Henning 45, Brady Henning 48 and Mitchell Veld 53.

Adrian’s Marissa Veld and Katie Wieneke both carded 43 for girls medalist honors. Teammates MacKenzie Wagner had a 49 and Alexia Kemper a 51.

For Fulda: Brittany Leinen 50, Katie Reynolds 51, and Claire Westra and Tatym Zins 59.

Redwood at Luverne

LUVERNE — Mark Spreiter and Colton Arends shot 38s as Luverne edged Redwood Valley 166-167 in boys golf. Luverne also won the girls team event, 216-225.

Cole Walgrave shot a 43 for the Luverne boys.

Mitch Fischer had a 39 for Redwood Valley’s boys. Joe Smith and Adam Hengel had 42 apiece.

Makayla Sterrett led the Luverne girls with a 50. Hailey Remme had the next best score for LHS, with a 54.

Kenzie Manthet and Mckenzie Mace carded a 48 and 49, respectively, for Redwood Valley.


SLAYTON — Abby Herding shot a medalist’s round of 47 as the Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls defeated Murray County Central 217 to 240.

Desiree Koenig and Avoree Bakken had 54 apiece for the Chargers.

Adam Christensen carded a 36 to lead the MCC boys to victory, 158-218.

Grant Eversen shot a 38 for the MCC boys and Tyler Groves shot a 43. Brandon Pacholl had a 51 for the W-WG boys.

Liz Prahm led the MCC girls with a 49. Hannah Davis chipped in with a 53.

Worthington at Hull-Western Christian

HULL, Iowa — Hull-Western Christian took both the boys and girls meets from Worthington, with the girls winning 191-207 and the boys winning 167-176.

Western Christian’s Jamie Altena was girls medalist with a 42 and teammate Zach Elgersma was medalist on the boys’ side with a round of 38.

Selina Hua carded a 50 for the Trojan girls. Teammate Becca Christensen had a 51 while Tyree Murray had a 532, Ashley Hoefker a 54. Erika Schutte, 55, and Kelicy Anderson, 56, rounded out the WHS girls’ scores.

Will Mulder was solid for the WHS boys, getting a 39. Tyler Van Hove chimed in with a 44 and Nathoe Vorasane had a 45. Three Trojans all had 48s — Jake Weg, Jaren Solt and Ben Koepsell in his first varsity competition.
