Prep softball: Top on top for E/SWC


EDGERTON — Led by yet another strong pitching performance by Tianna Top, the Edgerton/Southwest Christian Flying Dutchmen improved their high school softball record to 6-0 with a 8-0 win over Mountain Lake Area Thursday.

Top finished the game with 12 strikeouts, no walks and no earned runs. Her strong performance was bolstered with a strong day at the plate for the Flying Dutchmen, who accumulated 11 hits, led by Hope Veldkamp, who finished with three hits and an RBI. Savannah Tinklenberg finished with two doubles and two RBIs, and Jenny Nelson also had two hits and an RBI.

Edgerton/SWC is 4-1 in conference play.

Luverne 12-2,

Redwood Valley 19-3

LUVERNE — The Luverne Cardinals put on a show at the plate in a doubleheader against Redwood Valley, winning both games by a score of 12-2 and 19-3.

In game one, Ellen Dahl was the winning pitcher, striking out nine with three walks. At the plate, Tara Sudenga went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and an RBI. Dahl added two runs with two doubles and two RBIs, and Erica DeBoer tacked on two RBIs.

Allison Curry had two hits for Redwood Valley, including a double.

In game two, Ashley Olson was the winning pitcher, striking out six with three walks. Hitting, Olson led the Cards, going 5-for-5 with four runs scored, six RBIs, two doubles and two home runs. Alexis Hiller went 3-3 with three runs scored, Sudenga went 3-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs with a double and a homer, Dahl went 3-3 with two RBIs and a home run and DeBoer went 3-3 with two RBI and a homer.

SWU 16, Adrian 2

ELLSWORTH — Ida Rogers-Ferguson went the distance for Southwestern United, surrendering only two unearned runs from the circle, as she led her Wildcats to a 16-2 win over Adrian.

Jodi Bents went 2-for-2 for Adrian, with a triple. For SWU, Megan Haberman went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and Kristen Liepold went 2-for-4.

Bailey Grussing took the loss for Adrian.

Windom Area 6-2

WINDOM — Callie Graff twirled a six-hitter in the first game and Miranda Fischer pitched a three-hitter in the nightcap as the Marshall Tigers beat Windom Area twice, 12-6 and 8-2.

Meghan Vesey was the losing pitcher for Windom Area in the first game, but she did well at the plate with four hits in five at bats including two runs scored and an RBI. Teammate Lauren Huset was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

In the second game, Madison Maras had a double and an RBI for Windom Area.

Kelly Riordan took the loss for Windom Area, which is now 1-7.

SLAYTON — Kristi Bose threw a one-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader, walking nobody and striking out one.

Jade Giese went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for MCC. She had a single, double and triple.

In the second game, Bailey Jacobson pitched a strong game for the Rebels, walking three and striking out three while giving up just four hits.

Taylor Price doubled and later scored on an error for RRC’s only run in the third inning.

Giese went 2-for-3 at the plate in game two while Kendra Blomgren was 2-for-4 and Lissa Carlson 2-for-4.

MCC is 6-6 on the season and 5-1 in Red Rock Conference action.
