Prep track and field: T-M-B sweeps MCC Invite

SLAYTON — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton track and field squads took the sweep Tuesday, winning the team titles in both the girls and boys competitions at the Murray County Central Invite.

The Panther boys tallied 138 points to defeat second-place MCC by 35. The Rebels’ 103 was followed by Pipestone Area (96), Southwest Minnesota Christian (86), Fulda (52), Adrian (43), Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (32) and Ellsworth (5). T-M-B didn’t put quite as big of a margin between itself and the rest field on the girls’ side as it finished with 120 points. SWC was second and just eight points behind at 112. PA (107), MCC (73), Adrian (59), Fulda (48) and R-T-R (34) rounded out the field.

T-M-B took four championships in the boys competition. Christian Devereaux won the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.76 seconds. Matt Lavoy picked up a victory in the mile at 4:48.38 to give the Panthers two wins on the track. They also had two in the field with Rick Jorgenson leaping 18-5 in the long jump and Brett Swenhaugen covering 37-7 in the triple jump for a pair of wins. The Panther 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams also took first in their events.

Tyler Scotting highlighted the night for the home team as he finished as a three-event champion. He won the 110-meter hurdles (16.74 seconds), the 300-meter hurdles (42.13) and the shot put (48-7).

Three Panther girls took individual titles in the field events with one doing so on the track. Kassidy Przymus had the throw of the night in the discus when she flung it 119-0; 31-2 further than the second-place throw. Kendra Ludeman won the high jump at 5-0 while Taylor Schmidt was the pole vault champion at 7-0. Alyssa Gleis won the girls 800-meter run at 2:38.50. T-M-B also won the 4x400 and the 4x800 relays.

The Rebels added a three-time winner on the girls’ side as well with Paris Thomas doing those honors. She won the 100-meter dash (13.64 seconds), 100-meter hurdles (17.34) and the 300-meter hurdles (50.94).
