Prep softball: E/SWC clinches league crown

EDGERTON — For the second time in three years, Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian is the Red Rock Conference champion.

The Flying Dutchmen claimed the 2014 title on Tuesday night to cap off an unblemished conference mark of 10-0; the first of its kind. They took a thrilling 3-2 win over Murray County Central to clinch the championship.

MCC scored two runs in the top of the third to tie it up, but a tally for E/SWC in the fifth it back on top at 3-2. The Rebels got the tying run to third with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Tianna Top induced a game-ending grounder to Sydney Esselink at third to end the game and hand MCC just its second conference loss of the season. Both of those came at the hands of the Flying Dutchmen.

Top struck out eight and didn’t walk anyone in the win. Haley Tinklenberg was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Jenny Nelson had a double and an RBI. Kristi Bose was handed the loss.
