Prep golf: JCC sweeps; Van Iperen advances to districts

JACKSON — Three Jackson County Central golfers came home as medalists Friday as the Huskies took a nonconference sweep over Blue Earth Area at Jackson Golf Club.

Kyle Christopher and Jack Ringkob shared medalist honors in the boys’ competition when the JCC teammates came in with 40s. That led the Huskies to a 167-184 win. Alison Benson was the top individual performer in the girls’ competition when she carded a 41 as part of a convincing 174-229 win for JCC.

Christopher and Ringkob put together strong days to share the medalist distinction. Joe Brinkman wasn’t far behind them with a 42 with Austin Olson and Kyle Kapplinger tying for fourth with a 45 each. Chris Baker carded a 49 but did not factor into the Huskies’ team score.

Zach Curtis and Trevor Zierke both hit 44s for the Bucs while Luke Monson and Connor Thielfoldt each finished with a 48.

The JCC girls also finished in a tight group with Benson’s total being the best in a strong showing by the team as a whole. Abby Benson carded a 43 for the second-best score of the day with Abby Brinkman and Lexie Hoffman rounding out the scoring with a 45 each. Emmalie Benson and Emma Lilleberg totaled 48 and 49, respectively.

Natali Fellows paced the BEA effort with a 46. Ashley Peterson (58), Olivia Myers (61) and Mateja Lane (64) capped off the Buccaneer scoring.

Van Iperen qualifies for districts

HULL, Iowa — Harris-Lake Park had one golfer advance to the Class 1A District Golf Tournament Friday at sectionals.

Brady Van Iperen finished the day with an 86 to take third at the sectional played at Rolling Hills Country Club in Hull. That was just three strokes shy of taking home medalist honors as Central Lyon’s Brandt Boekhout and Chandler Brusting of Boyden-Hull took the top two spots with an 84 and an 85, respectively.

With the third-place finish, Van Iperen will play for a shot at the Class 1A State Golf Tournament at 10 a.m. Thursday in the district tournament held at Spencer Golf and Country Club.

The Sibley-Ocheyedan and Sheldon boys both came up empty at their Class 2A Sectional at Emerald Hills in Milford. Estherville Lincoln Central and Emmetsburg qualified for the Storm Lake District Tournament with Mike Myers of the E’Hawks and Okoboji’s Tyler Ohl tying for first at 77.
