Prep baseball: MCC rains hits on SWU; Lanoue single lifts T-M-B

HERON LAKE — Angling for a place atop the final Red Rock Conference baseball standings, Murray County Central broke out the bats and pounded host Southwestern United Friday, 11-3.

The Rebels collected 15 hits in dropping SWU to 1-14 overall and 1-8 in the conference. MCC thus secures at least a share of the conference title.

Senior Justin Bakke led the Murray County Central offensive charge Friday with a 4-for-4 performance that included a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Seth Bass had two hits and three RBIs. Nick Petersen had a solo home run to go along with a pair of hits. Paul Mesner had two hits and two RBIs. Jordan Ahlers chipped in with two hits of his own and drove in a run. T.J. Van Peursem had two hits, two walks and an RBI.

Marcelo Esqueda went 2-for-3 with a double for Southwestern United, which was held to six hits on the afternoon.

Mitchell Woldt went the full seven innings on the mound for MCC, walking just one and striking out nine.

Aaron Fest pitched three innings for SWU and took the loss.

T-M-B 3, Minneota 2

MILROY — Brady Lanoue delivered a walk-off single with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Trac-Milroy-Balaton a one-run victory over Minneota.

Taylor Carlson was the winning pitcher, allowing just six hits in seven innings while walking two and striking out 10. Alec Engler, who came on in the seventh inning, took the loss.

Riley Steffes had two hits and two RBIs for T-M-B. Lanoue and Tanner Phelps also had two hits for the Panthers.

The victory moved T-M-B to 6-7 on the season.
