American Legion baseball: Jackson scores early, often against Wabasso

MILROY — The Jackson American Leagion Post 130 baseball team got rolling early Monday on its way to a convincing road win over Wabasso.

Jackson picked up seven runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. One final run in the bottom of the fourth ended it and Post 130 took a 10-0 victory.

It all started with back-to-back walks for Andrew Hesse and Easton Bahr to start the game. That set the table for Jared Bakalyar, who got the scoring started with a single. After Wabasso finally recorded its first out of the night, Peter Nasby walked and Josh Christoffer joined him on the basepaths. Hits by Chris Gumto and Ryan Christopher kept it going as each eventually circled around to score. In all, Jackson sent 13 batters to the plate to take a 7-0 lead before Wabasso came to the plate.

It was plenty of insurance for Gumto, who struck out the first two batters he faced and didn’t allow a hit in the four-inning win.

Nasby and Christoffer both scored in the second to add to the onslaught. Jordan Biehn circled around for the final run in the fourth to trigger the run-rule.

Bakalyar was 2-for-3 for Jackson. Christopher, Hesse, Scott Christopher, Nasby, Gumto and Mitchell Macek had a hit each.

Gumto picked up the win, going four innings and not allowing a hit while striking out five.

Jackson will host Windom in a 6 p.m. doubleheader on Monday.

Jackson 720 1 — 10 7 0

Wabasso 000 0 — 0 0 0
