High school roundup: MCC softball team blanks Adrian

SLAYTON -- Amanda Muecke fired a two-hitter and the Murray County Central bats did the rest in a shutout of Adrian Thursday in high school fast-pitch softball play.

Montana Beckmann collected three hits and Brooklyne Miller had two as the Rebels accounted for 10 hits in all. The home team scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning -- all that was needed.

Avery Balster took the loss.

Luverne 4, Worthington 3 (9 inn.)

LUVERNE -- Ariel DeBeer’s bad-hop hit past the right field sentinel scored a single run in the bottom of the ninth inning, allowing Luverne to squeeze past Worthington in a tight struggle.

It was one of those games that both teams deserved to win. But one had to lose.

“Just a great game. I was super proud,” said Worthington head coach Rosalie Hostikka-Hayenga. “Defensively, I think we did some nice things to stay in the game.”

Luverne scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3. The Cardinals then loaded the bases with one out, but the Trojans got out of the jam. In the eighth inning. Luverne stranded two more runners on the bases.

Rylee Olson went the distance on the pitcher’s rubber for Luverne and was credited with the win. She walked one and struck out five and allowed 10 hits. Sydney Ponto took the loss, also going the distance on a 10-hitter. She struck out three and walked four.

Mariah Aukes was 3-for-5 with two RBIs for LHS. Teammates Olson and Ashton Krueger each had a pair of hits.

Payton Sauerbrei went 3-for-5 for Worthington with two stolen bases. Kourtney Bauman had two hits, two RBIs and a stolen base. And Brittin Fauskee had a hit, two runs and a stolen base.

CLEVELAND -- Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey scored a single run in the top of the eighth inning, after Cleveland scored three in the bottom of the seventh, to earn a one-run victory.

Molly Carnell had four RBIs for the Wolverines. Jordan Boldt added two hits.

Carnell was the winning pitcher. She went all eight innings and struck out seven.

Also Thursday, Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey finished a suspended game with Nicollet. The Wolverines won that one, 9-8, with two runs in the top of the seventh. Carnell got the win.

GRANITE FALLS -- In improving to 14-3 on the season, Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove got a sound pitching performance from Skyler Reddemann and more than enough hitting.

Reddemann, a senior, hurled six innings. He allowed just five hits and struck out eight.

Taylor Bunting, Trevor Pederson and Cole Jackson all had a pair of hits for the winners. Pederson hit a two-run double.

Pipestone 5, Montevideo 2

PIPESTONE -- Josh Tinklenberg had three hits and Carter Colemer pitched a strong seven innings as Pipestone Area defeated Montevideo.

Colemer struck out five and gave up just four hits.

WA 2, RV 1

REDWOOD FALLS -- Windom Area crossed the plate twice in the sixth inning to break a 0-0 tie and held on to beat Redwood Valley. RV scored once in the bottom of half of the inning, but couldn’t pull the game-tier around.

Luke Gilbertson got the win for the Eagles, as he struck out five and allowed one run in four innings.

He was also 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Eric Pfeffer was 1-for-4 with a run.

GOLFRRC Triangular

SANBORN -- Springfield swept medalist honors in a triangular meet with Hills-Beaver Creek and Red Rock Central. Callie Wersal was the girls’ titleist with a 39. And Maverick Winkelmann was first among the boys with a 40.

MaKenna Winkelman shot a 42, Jenna Roiger a 45 and Anna Plotz a 46 as Springfield totaled 172 strokes as a girls team. H-BC and RRC were incomplete.

Carley Baumann led RRC’s girls with a 51. Tess VanMaanen shot a 50 for H-BC.

The Springfield boys shot a 175 as a team while H-BC shot a 199 and RRC a 215. Mason Kretsch carded a 43 to aide the Springfield effort, and teammates Owen Bertram and Zander Ausmus both shot 46.

Jaden Prechel had a 51 for RRC. Preston Maassen shot a 45 for H-BC while teammates Carter Roozenboom and Dylan Taubert each had 50.

Wabasso at W-WG

WESTBROOK -- Westbrook-Walnut Grove won both the boys and girls sides of a golf meet with Wabasso on Thursday. The Chargers boys won 176-190, while the girls scored 215 and Wabasso was incomplete.

Nathan Ross won medalist honors for W-WG with a 39, while Cole Bunting scored 45, and Andrew Quade and Kyle Kuehl both scored 46.

On the girls side W-WG’s Avoree Bakken won medalist honors with a 47, while Brittany Erickson scored 54, Halle Steen scored 56, and Gabby Grams scored 58.
