Trojans draw New Prague in tourney

WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington Trojan girls' basketball team was a little unlucky Sunday.

Not only did the Trojans not earn one of the top four seeds, but Worthington received the toughest possible opponent.

After the top four teams were put in the brackets, a random draw was used to decide their opponents.

Worthington drew top-seeded New Prague, and the two Trojan teams will square off Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at Williams Areana on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Totino-Grace, which is looking to defend its Class AAA title, was the second seed, followed by third-seeded Minnehaha Academy.

Minneapolis North, which defeated Worthington 79-78 Feb. 21, earned the fourth seed in the tournament.

While Worthington begins its tournament play Wednesday, another Southwest Conference team does the same.

Pipestone Area, which advanced to state with a 63-48 victory against Redwood Valley, will face Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Williams Arena.

The Lakers enter with a 27-3 record and are making their second consecutive appearance.

The Adrian Dragons, who are making their first appearance, also have a tough first-round draw.

Adrian will face undefeated Barnum (30-0) Thursday at 5 p.m. at Williams Arena.

Barnum finished second in 2008 and finished No. 1 in this year's final poll.
