Prep gymnastics roundup: Trojan gymnasts score 133-plus, JCC and MCW win meets

WINNEBAGO — Worthington finished off Blue Earth Area in a high school gymnastics meet Tuesday night on the road.

The score was 133.025-109.175.

Paige Kinley scored first in the bars (8.8), floor exercise (8.8) and all-around event (34.15) to help the Trojans.

Taylor Eggers finished second (7.95) on bars, third on balance beam (8.1) and third in all-around (32.775) while Maria Contreras was third on bars (7.85), first on vault (8.725), second on balance beam (8.15), third on bars (7.85) and second on all around (33.325).

In the junior varsity event, Worthington defeated Blue Earth Area 102.7-59.2.

Rachel Spartz and Courtney Bauman (5.2) were first on bars for the Trojans. Spartz won vault (7.9), Bauman seized first on beam (7.5), Claire Ludes tied Bauman (6.8) to take the floor exercise and Bauman was first on all-around (27.75).

“The girls did wonderfully tonight. It was our first meet and we came out with good routines. To score 133 is awesome,” WHS gymnastics coach Joni Reitmeier said. “We now know where we’re at so that we can get back into the gym and improve.”

JCC at New Ulm

NEW ULM — Jackson County Central, competing in their first dual meet of the winter season, fell in a tight one to host New Ulm, 125.2 to 125.125.

Molly Klimek led the Eagles with first-place finishes on the vault (8.8) and balance beam (8.0). Jackson County Central’s Haley Bass won on the uneven parallel bars (8.125) and the floor exercise (8.225).

Klimek claimed the all-around competition.

Second places went to Klimek on bars (7.825), teammate Allison Rosenhamer on beam (7.825) and Jackson County Central’s Abby Schneekloth on vault (8.725) and floor (8.2).

MCWest at Luverne

LUVERNE — Martin County West showed strength in every category in downing Luverne 137.125 to 123.325.

Becca Steen won all four individual events for Martin County West, taking the vault (9.225), bars (8.95), beam (9.35) and floor (9.4). She scored 36.875 points in the all-around.

Erin Sietsema placed second for Luverne in the vault (8.8) while teammate Samantha Pierce was third (8.6).

Other leaders for Luverne included: Bergin Flom 8.5 on vault and 8.1 on floor; Sietsema 7.250 on bars and 7.75 on floor; Pierce 7.25 on beam and 8.55 on floor; Madi Schandelmeier 8.35 on vault, 7.225 on beam and 7.75 on floor.

Schandelmeier and Pierce both scored a 31.5 on all-around.
