Gymnastics: Trojans win again


WINDOM — Fresh off a victory over Martin County Area on Tuesday, the Worthington Trojans gymnastics team waded into a Southwest Conference duel with host Windom Area Thursday and won again.

The Trojans scored 135.15 points, a slight improvement over their 134.725 Tuesday at home, to advance to 6-0 on the season. Windom Area totaled 129.9 points.

Paige Kinley won the all-around competition for Worthington with 35.35 points. She also won three individual events, taking the uneven parallel bars with an 8.55, the balance beam with an 8.7 and the floor exercise with a 9.25. Kinley was fourth on the vault with an 8.8.

Head coach Joni Reitmeier has stressed the need for improvement on the balance beam, and on Thursday Worthington placed one, two and three. Maria Contreras was second with an 8.0 and Whitney Jensen was third with a 7.85.

Windom Area’s Miki Bolin was fourth on the beam with 7.625.

Following Kinley on bars was Worthington’s Taylor Eggers, with an 8.175. Contreras was third with 8.1 followed by the Eagles’ Hannah Kloss with an 8.0.

Windom Area placed 2-3 on floor exercise with Bolin (9.175) and Kloss (9.05). Contreras was fourth with an 8.9.

In vaulting, Kloss claimed the title with a 9.325. Bolin was second at 9.1. Contreras placed third with 8.955.

Contreras scored a 33.925 to place second in the all-around. Kloss and Bolin followed with 33.85 and 33.4 respectively.

Worthington also won the junior varsity competition 107.6 to 86.95. Firsts for Worthington were turned in by Rachel Clark in vault (8.3), bars (6.0), beam (6.9) and all-around (28.2) and Claire Ludes in floor (7.5).
