A common snapping turtle reacts defensively and shows off the brightly colored interior of its mouth that it uses, along with a dangling wormlike appendage, to attract prey. The Chelydridae family of turtles has a long fossil history dating back to the late Cretaceous period and a time before the dinosaurs went extinct.
