FORESTBURG, S.D. — Two Sanborn Central High School students are working to improve a cold-weather problem for cattle ranchers, including their own families. Alex Wormstadt and Austin Schmit recently won a statewide competition in Pierre with their prototype of a mobile calf-warming box. The duo received $1,500 through the South Dakota Bankers Foundation 2018 Business Plan Competition after presenting their plan and project in February.
CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. — A Gann Valley woman was found guilty on one count of first-degree manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault Friday in the death of 4-year-old Mason Naser. Donika Gonzales, 23, stood trial this week at the Brule County Courthouse on charges of second-degree murder, two alternate counts of first-degree manslaughter, and alternate counts of aggravated assault and felony child abuse.
