JORDAN -- Though their goal of a Minnesota state Class A baseball championship was burst earlier Friday, the Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Falcons finished strong by claiming third place. Parkers Prairie, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, defeated RRC/W-WG 8-3 in the semifinals, but the Falcons turned around and drilled Wabasha-Kellogg 12-0 in five innings to win the third-place game at the Mini Met in Jordan.
Champion Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove captured five spots on the 2017 All-Red Rock Conference baseball team. WELCOME -- Jackson's Post 130 American Legion baseball team fell to Welcome/Sherburn 5-1 Thursday. Darrius Johnson pitched four solid innings for Jackson. Keegan Klontz pitched a scoreless fifth. Gavin Jacobsen, who just finished the eighth grade, pitched a 1-2-3 sixth with a called strikeout.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Marshall Tigers broke free from a 1-1 tie after five innings to beat Red Wing 3-1 Thursday afternoon in a first-round Minnesota state Class AAA high school baseball game at Siebert Field at the University of Minnesota. A couple of sixth-inning errors helped Marshall prevail. Teddy Tauer pitched well for Red Wing, allowing just one earned run on four hits and two walks, while striking out 11 in seven innings. But the Tigers' Mason Penske got the win in a complete game. He allowed just two hits, walked two and struck out seven.
JACKSON -- Dylan Svoboda threw four solid innings to pick up the win and Nate Reed pitched a scoreless fifth as the Jackson American Legion baseball team defeated Fairmont 10-0 Wednesday. The Jacksonians scored seven runs in the second inning on five hits.
ADRIAN -- The Worthington American Legion baseball team defeated Adrian 11-4 on Tuesday in a game that was shortened to five innings because of bad weather. Logan Huisman was the winning pitcher, going 3.1 innings. He was relieved by Easton Sauerbrei, who pitched 1.2 innings. Huisman and Sauerbrei both collected three hits, with both of them getting a double and a triple. Adrian had two hits -- one by Mitchell Wagner and another a bunt single by Nick Carter. Jake Stamer started on the mound and took the loss for Adrian.
Ambulance WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Ambulance was dispatched at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday to the 2100 block of Nobles Street for a client who suffered an extended seizure. BECKER -- Minnesota high school golfers are teeing it up today (Tuesday, June 13) for the state meet. Class A hopefuls are competing in a two-day tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker. Class AA is at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, and Class AAA linksters are shooting for low scores at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.
