OKABENA -- Hailey Remme tallied a double-double for Luverne as it defeated Heron Lake-Okabena 42-35 in high school girls basketball on Friday. Remme scored 10 points with 11 rebounds. Kami Sawtelle led the Cardinals with 12 points and had eight rebounds. Gabi Stenzel led the Wildcats with 20 points. Luverne (5-8) plays at Garretson today. Heron Lake-Okabena (2-9) hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Tuesday.
HILLS -- In a boys basketball showdown between two undefeated Red Rock Conference foes, Red Rock Central defeated Hill-Beaver Creek 64-55 on Friday in Hills to take sole possession of first place in the conference. The Falcons got hot when it counted, scoring 34 points in the second half and pulling away from their conference rivals. “They shot really well in the second half and we got into foul trouble,” H-BC head coach Steve Wiertzema said. “That was the difference in the game.”

WORTHINGTON — In observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, a number of businesses and offices will be closed in Worthington. Worthington city offices and Nobles County offices will be closed Monday. The Worthington Post Office will be closed Monday, and there will be no mail delivery. Worthington District 518 schools will be closed for a teachers’ in-service day. The Nobles County Library will also be closed.
WORTHINGTON — Members of Prairie Reapers Power Reunion will host their annual meeting and pancake feed Jan. 24 at the Elks Club at 1105 Second Ave., Worthington. The meal, which will begin at 6 p.m., will be followed by the annual meeting and a drawing for door prizes. Included in the business meeting will be reports for 2016, the election of officers, and the announcement of plans for the organization’s 2017 show. At this meeting, members are encouraged to pay their dues for 2017.

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Ambulance was paged at 11:56 p.m. Wednesday to the 1200 block of Ryan’s Road for an adult male.
ROSEVILLE – With just over 24 hours to spare, an Austin resident arrived at the Lottery’s headquarters in Roseville to claim a $50,000 prize. Her winning Powerball ticket was purchased for the Jan. 13, 2016 drawing and was set to expire at 5 p.m. Friday. Debra Newman said she didn’t claim the prize earlier because, “It was a rough year and I thought for sure (the deadline to claim) was February. I heard on the news that a ticket purchased in Austin was going to expire and I thought, ‘Wait a minute, that’s me,’” she said.
