Gertrude M. Little, 94, of Worthington, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Sunset Hospice Cottage, Worthington. Surviving are two stepchildren, Tanya (Ron) Rudkin, Florida, and Dudley Little, Reno, Nev.; one brother, Willis (Clare Ann) Fenske, Worthington; one sister, Dolores Meier, Worthington; two grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many step great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Worthington.
Leona Huisenga, 82, of Sibley, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Prairie View Nursing Home, Sanborn, Iowa. Arrangements are pending at Jurrens Funeral Home, Sibley.
Mr. Gary Van Der Zwaag, age 70, of rural Hospers, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 at the Newkirk Reformed Church, rural Hospers, with the Rev. David Powers officiating. Interment will follow in Newkirk Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home, Orange City. Gary Keith was born Jan. 17, 1938, in Orange City, the son of Bernard and Vaida (Kuiken) Van Der Zwaag. He was raised in the Newkirk area.
Lavonne Jordin, 84, of Windom, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Sogge Good Samaritan Society, Windom. Surviving are one daughter, Maggie (Jerry) Grein, Minnetonka; one brother, Darrell Maher, Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Bette Marsh, Tucson; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. The service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, rural Cosmos, with the Rev. Terry Frovik officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cosmos. Thomas W. Lewis, 69, of Bloomington, passed away Sept. 27, 2008. Preceded in death by parents, two brothers and two sisters. Tom was a practicing attorney for 38 years, serving the community of Windom, MN, as the city attorney for 14 years. He was active in community activities. Survived by wife, Carolyn; brother, Richard (Sue) Lewis; son, George (Patti) Lewis; daughter, Ann (Jeff) Schmidt; six grandchildren, Emma Schmidt, Jed Schmidt, Benjamin Lewis, Mandy Schmidt, Samantha Lewis and Jonah Schmidt; aunt, Sister Bibiana. Wesley Johnson, 64, of Blue Earth, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. today at Bethany Lutheran Church, Storden. The service will be 1 p.m. today at Bethany Lutheran Church, Storden, with the Rev. Mark Swanson officiating. Military honors will follow at the church. Beverly Klosterman, 76, of Ashton, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at Osceola Community Hospital, Sibley, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ashton. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ashton, with the Rev. John Vakulskas and the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Edwin A. Olson, 92, of Glenwood and formerly of Jackson, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at the Lakeview Good Samaritan Center, Glenwood. Surviving are two sisters, Geneva (Walter) Johnson, Minneapolis, and Norma Monson, Jackson. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Jackson. The service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Jackson, with the Rev. Martin Lucin officiating. Burial will be in Hauge's Cemetery, Des Moines Township.
ElRay D. Abels of Rushmore, Minnesota passed away on Friday September 26, 2008 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday September 30, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmont, Mn. With Rev. Ken Honius officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Holman Township Cemetery at Sibley,Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00-8:00 pm at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley with the family present from 5:00-7:00 pm. ElRay was born in Sibley, Iowa on February 2, 1933, the son of Fred J. and Anna "Klassen" Abels. He attended Sibley Schools.
