Herman John Wiertzema, age 83, of Ellsworth, died Thursday, September 25, 2008, at the Sanford Luverne Hospital. He was born November 6, 1924, in Little Rock Township, MN, to George and Luella (Habbena) Wiertzema. He attended country school in rural Little Rock Township. Herman married Lena DeBoer on December 6, 1944, in Rushmore. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Little Rock. In 1963, they moved to the farm two miles east of Ellsworth.
Marrietta Ardell Fischer was born on Dec 6, 1925 at the farm of her parents, John and Bessie (Smith) Heinrichs in Afton Twp. of Artesian, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist church. During her youth she attended Afton Twp. School until she entered high school at Artesian where she graduated in 1944. She worked as an assistant post mistress at Artesian post office for two and half years until she married Harold Adam Fischer at the Methodist church on June 29, 1947 at Artesian, South Dakota. They farmed in Middletown Twp.
Wesley Johnson, 64, of Blue Earth, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Storden Community Center and from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Storden. The service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Storden, with the Rev. Mark Swanson officiating. LaCanne Family Funeral Service, Windom is in charge of the arrangements.
Betty Feldman, 69, of George, died Thursday Sept. 25, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center, George. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., today, at Jurrens Funeral Home, George. The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jurrens Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, George.
Helen Holck, 83, of Storden, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 at the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Society, Windom. Surviving are her husband, Leonard "Buzz" Holck; two daughters, Sandra (Bruce) Lacher, Princeton, and Rhonda Holck, Pennock; one son, Wayne (Sandy) Holck, Alexandria; one sister, Ardith Pietz, Marshall, five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the Jeffers Methodist Church. The service will be 2 p.m. today at Jeffers Methodist Church, with the Rev. Clinton Firstbrook III officiating.
Chad Vincent Wieneke was born to Glenn and Jacqueline (Pensyl) Wieneke on December 25, 1972 at Arnold Memorial Hospital in Adrian, MN. He was baptized on January 13, 1973 and later confirmed on April 13, 1990 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lismore, MN. He grew up in Lismore and graduated from Adrian High School in 1991. He then attended Pipestone Vocational and Technical College for two years in the carpentry program. Following his education, he became employed as an assembler at Highland Manufacturing in Worthington, MN. He lived in Fulda, MN, Lismore, and then Worthington.
Pearl Ragnhild Ernquiat Salzwedel, daughter of Eric and Ragnhild (Holmquist) Ernquist, was born on February 28, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. She was baptized and later confirmed in May of 1941 at North Park Swedish Covenant Church in Chicago. Pearl grew up in Chicago and graduated from high school there. Following her education, Pearl was a long distance operator for AT&T. She married Ray Salzwedel on September 6, 1947 in Chicago. Following their marriage, the couple moved to a farm near Lakefield, Minnesota.
LaPearl Edith Burmeister Thoreson, 90, of Lakefield, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Lakefield. Surviving are two children; Ron (Paulene) Thoreson, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Karen Steinberg, Trimont; one brother, Albert (Marianne) Burmeister Jr., Lakefield; one sister, Leola (Don) Rogers, Brewster; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Osterberg Funeral Home, Jackson, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Dorothy Marlene Johnson, 70 of Verdi, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at the Hendricks Hospital, Hendricks. Surviving are her husband, Eldon Johnson, Verdi; two daughters, Eldonna (Thomas) Hillard, Ward, S.D., and Judy (Lee) Johnson, Sleepy Eye; one sister, Joyce (Marlyn) Koehne, Langdon, N.D.; and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday Lake Benton United Methodist Church, Lake Benton, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. The service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lake Benton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Memorial Hill Cemetery, Lake Benton.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Osterberg Funeral Home, Jackson, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley. The service will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley, with the Rev. Gerald Gauthier officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Jackson. Memorials are preferred to Sunset Cottage, Worthington, or to the Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley.
