BEMIDJI, Minn. — When news that North Dakota was dropping its women's hockey program was announced Wednesday afternoon in Grand Forks, it hit the hockey community hard. Most of the criticism was centered on the UND administration, who first let the news leak to the press via Twitter while the Fighting Hawks were on the ice for practice, forcing the players to find out via friends or social media. The team had even flown a recruit out for an official visit — something the school administration must approve before giving the go-ahead.
BEMIDJI, Minn. — A number of current, former and future Bemidji State women's hockey players have joined the U.S. women's national team's boycott of the upcoming women's World Championships, which start Thursday, March 30, in Plymouth, Mich. Former Beaver Stephanie Anderson, a member of Team USA's player pool, as well as current players Alexis Joyce and Emily Bergland, and incoming freshman Mak Langei, all said they would not be participating in the world championships. Team USA hopes to defend its gold medal from last season's world championships.
