A Glenwood City, Wis. social studies teacher, coach and city council member is facing multiple felony charges amid allegations he had an online sexual relationship with a Missouri child. St. Croix County prosecutors charged Peter L. Gaustad, 45, with five felonies, including child sexual exploitation, expose child to harmful material, and cause child 13-18 to view sex activity and use a computer to facilitate a child sex crime Friday afternoon. Bail was set at $100,000 at Gaustad’s initial appearance.
The River Falls school community was shaken Monday by two separate events, one involving a student’s death at Meyer Middle School and another resulting in a student’s arrest. Superintendent Jamie Benson sent an automated voice message March 19 to families in the district confirming the death of a sixth-grade student. “The death of any young person is a loss that, in one way or another, affects us all,” he said in the recorded message.
A Minnesota judge didn’t doubt the the progress a confessed drug dealer had made in treatment, but said those steps weren’t enough to avert a prison sentence. Washington County District Court Judge John McBride sentenced Karl R. Heinrichs on Monday to six years in prison — four of which must be spent behind bars. The Stillwater man, arrested last year after a sting that involved Minnesota and Wisconsin authorities, pleaded guilty in June to second-degree drug sales.
BALDWIN, Wis. - Two bodies found this week inside a Baldwin house belonged to a man and his infant daughter, according to authorities. Baldwin Police Chief Darren Krueger said a woman arrived home Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 280 Cedar St. Apt. 54 to find 39-year-old Jeffrey Long dead and their 14-week-old daughter Aubree Long unresponsive. Jeffrey Long died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to police. Authorities were called to the scene at 4:40 p.m. Efforts to resuscitate the child were unsuccessful.
WOODBURY — A deadly robbery attempt Saturday morning in Woodbury might have ended differently, were it not for the presence of a Woodbury patrol officer and an alert worker. According to Woodbury police, an armed man tried to rob Johnson Jewelers in a Radio Drive shopping center but ended up turning the gun on himself. Woodbury detectives continued to search for an alleged accomplice.
