WORTHINGTON -- A cooperative construction agreement between the City of Worthington and McDonald's USA is expected to advance development of a new Worthington location for the fast-food establishment. The Worthington City Council, during its Monday evening meeting, approved an agreement pertaining to construction and maintenance of a new street and a sanitary sewer extension.
Nearly two months after this year's state legislative session drew to a close, District 22's elected officials offered a recap and answered questions during a continental breakfast program Friday morning at Worthington Country Club. While agriculture and veterans were agreed upon to be the success stories of this year's session, District 22A Rep. Doug Magnus, R-Slayton, District 22B Rep. Rod Hamilton, R-Mountain Lake, and District 22 Sen. Jim Vickerman, DFL-Tracy, all acknowledged disappointment with some of the developments.
WORTHINGTON -- There will be no need for a scheduled public hearing regarding New Vision Co-op's abandoned elevator property, as New Vision has sold the site to a Mankato firm. A deed in the Nobles County assessor's office signed July 10 shows that New Vision has sold a parcel that includes part of lots 1, 2 and 3 of block 53 of Second Addition -- its old elevator property -- to Rudy Development W LLC.
WORTHINGTON -- A public hearing to consider possible disciplinary action against the Eagles Club will take place July 23, the Worthington City Council decided Friday morning. The public hearing will take place prior to the council's regularly scheduled 7 p.m. meeting.
WORTHINGTON -- A public hearing has been set for next month to determine whether the abandoned elevator property owned by New Vision Co-op constitutes a public nuisance. Acting unanimously and without discussion Monday night, the Worthington City Council voted to declare the property a public nuisance and set a public hearing on the matter for July 23.
WORTHINGTON -- Well into the wee hours of Saturday morning, the Avalon Beauty Academy Relay for Life team still seemed to have plenty of energy. WASHINGTON -- Thirty-six contiguous Minnesota counties stand to benefit from a training grant of $5 million announced Wednesday by U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. The grant, which will be administered over three years, was awarded to Minnesota's Ag Innovation Triangle, which encompasses counties in the southwest, west central and south central parts of the state. The Workforce Innovations in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) Grant, won by 12 other U.S.
WORTHINGTON -- Electric message signs would be permitted in residential areas under an amendment to the city's sign ordinance considered by the Worthington City Council Monday night. The city's Planning Commission opted earlier this spring to issue a special use permit to the Prairie Elementary Parent Group for an electric message sign at the Prairie Elementary site, which is located within a residential area.
LUVERNE -- Several years of planning culminated in a ground-breaking ceremony Tuesday morning for the Alzheimer's Day Room addition at Minnesota Veterans Home, Luverne. District 22 Sen. Jim Vickerman, Dist. 22A Rep. Doug Magnus and Luverne Mayor Andy Steensma, along with a host of contractors as well as residents and staff of the facility, were on hand for the program.
WORTHINGTON -- There's still no deal between the City of Worthington and New Vision Co-op, as Worthington City Council members opted Monday to reject a New Vision counter-offer for demolition of New Vision's unused elevator building and site. Following the unanimous 5-0 vote to refuse New Vision's counter-offer -- made in response to a proposal councilmen narrowly voted to put forth last month -- the council voted 4-1 several minutes later to submit a new offer on the property.
