Van Waus was nominated for the award by her peers and lauded as a "true gift from God that uses all her talents" who "is continually processing ways to improve patient care" and "always finds the good in every situation." Van Waus, it was added, "is always willing to lend a helping hand" and "is the true jack of all trades." She received a $500 award with the recognition, which came during a special week designated by the American Hospital Association for "Celebrating Hope and Healing." Also recognized Wednesday were Ashley Bonnstetter (Florence Nightingale Nurse Award), Lynn Dierks and Mary Hesemann (Exemplary Practice Nurse Award), Kaitlin Bullerman (Structural Empowerment Nurse Award), Dee Dee Behnke (Transformational Leadership Nurse Award) and Rachelle Bosma (Friend of Nursing Award).
