WORTHINGTON — Twenty-three local businesses will be showcased during this year's Sassy Saturday event, said volunteer coordinator Amanda Walljasper-Tate.

Doors open at 8 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Auditorium. The first 150 people will receive goodie bags filled with free items from participating businesses, including a coupon for a free lunch at Phileo's Coffee & Eatery.

"Those do usually go quickly," said Walljasper-Tate, noting that if the weather is good, attendees frequently begin lining up quite early in the morning.

Breakfast this year will be provided by Sanford Worthington. After the meal, there will be a style show to exhibit this season's fall fashion.

The rest of the day is devoted to visiting participating businesses.

"This year we have some great new additions to the lineup," Walljasper-Tate said.

A scavenger hunt is designed to get people into the businesses to check out what they have to offer. Each of the 23 businesses has a specific item for participants to find, and then the proprietor will stamp their scavenger hunt handout. Once each person visits 15 businesses and receives a stamp from each, they can leave their handout with the 15th business.

Walljasper-Tate said she and other event coordinators will collect the handouts and enter them into a drawing for either a grand prize basket or Chamber Bucks.

Some of the business will also be offering demonstrations, including Threads and Decor, The Stag, the Worthington Liquor Store and The Daily Apple.

"If some of the places on the list are places you haven't been, it's really fun," she said. She encourages every Sassy Saturday attendee to complete the scavenger hunt.

Sassy Saturday is free to attend.
