FAST Global Solutions announces job cuts
WINDOM — Beginning sometime this week, FAST Global Solutions was expected to reduce its workforce across all campuses, including the one in Windom.
In a general statement from the manufacturing company, the company announced that a workforce reduction of approximately 10% to 15% will affect both direct and indirect labor across all locations.
According to its website, FAST Global Solutions manufactures sprayer and liquid fertilizer equipment for the agriculture industry, ground support equipment for the airline and air cargo industry and conveyor equipment for the material handling industry.
In an employee memo dated April 23, management announced the workforce reduction was due in part to a recent overproduction in inventory, an effect of a reported shortfall in sales.
While the full extent of how many positions will be terminated at the Windom plant is unknown, Windom Economic Development Authority Director Drew Hage said job openings between Prime Pork and Toro outnumber those being cut from FAST Global.
Laura Vancura, human resources manager for Toro Inc.’s Windom location, said the company currently has openings for assemblers, welders, material handlers and professional positions.
“We’d look forward to visiting about our opportunities to any of the affected employees,” she said.
Fast’s 144,000-square-foot production facility was constructed in Windom in 2013. In 2014, Fast Sprayers shifted its production from a farm between Windom and Mountain Lake. According to FAST Ag Solutions webpage, the FAST Ag Solutions company merged with FAST Global Solutions in 2015.
